Far from suggesting that this was plutarch's goal, I was merely putting forward a question directed towards all Utopia's. Many writers have imagined (or documented) societies that maintain stability by removing the distinctions that cause jealousy. Now while I dont think that they were necessarily working from a mimetic model, they do beg the question of "why did so many people think this would work?" In Plutarch's case, I suppose it would be prudent to question the documents validity. Validity aside, why would plutarch have thought the society he wrote of to be so stable?
