No cap�tulo 1 de Little (2001) "Exploring the practice and theory of learner autonomy", a abordagem de Leni Dam � discutida e tr�s princ�pios, considerados interdependentes, s�o citados: learner empowerment, learner reflection e appropriate target language use. Na p�gina 7, o autor afirma que 'learner autonomy, which implies freedom from the others, turns out to be the product of interactive processes that are characterized not by independence, but by interdependence'. Essa interdepend�ncia entre os princ�pios � desejada para o desenvolvimento da autonomia- 'we can now turn to the three principles that we argued underpin the practice and development of learner autonomy in the foreign language classroom' (p.15). Muito se fala de desenvolvimento da autonomia, mas o que caracterizaria um est�gio onde a autonomia estivesse desenvolvida? � poss�vel de ser atingida? Haveria em algum momento verdadeira 'independ�ncia'? Essa independ�ncia seria desejada?
