Parece-me claro que o professor tem importante(s) papel (papéis) num processo de ensino-aprendizagem, seja ele baseado em autonomia ou semi-autonomia. O texto de VOLLER (1997) já o afirma, relacionando e comentando-o(s) de acordo com a concepção de professor adotada: facilitador, conselheiro ou fonte de recursos. Como o colega Fabiano Leite observou, porém, isso não esgota a lista de papéis ou funções atribuíveis a um bom professor. Talvez pudéssemos acrescentar a ela outros papéis ou funções possíveis/desejáveis, contempladas em pesquisas ao longo das últimas décadas: “motivator (?), provider of accurate language models, needs analyst, evaluator, materials developer, counselor and friend, organizer and controller of the student behavior (?), monitor of the student learning”, etc. Será que, considerado tudo isso, podemos afirmar que um eventual aprendiz completamente autônomo (célula D do quadro 24-1 de HEALEY, 1999, p.393) tomou para si esses papéis, efetuou a transferência total de responsabilidade pelo seu próprio processo de ensino-aprendizagem ("the truly autonomous learner would not need a teacher at all" - VOLLER, 1999, p.107)?
