I had to think longest and hardest about my reply to you, Jennn.

I would say that, over the course of many years, I have read about equal amounts of fiction and nonfiction. I can say, without irony, that I have learned at least as much from reading fiction as from reading non. It spurs critical thought and opens our minds to new ideas that they might not otherwise encounter.

Reading fiction is MUCH different than watching television, in that watching is passive, and in reading, the mind is actively engaged. I would never worry about cluttering my mind with made-up stuff. The capacity of the mind is infinite.
