Basic math and spelling are things that 90% of people can't do. It amazes me that people can't do simple addition, subtraction, or multiplication of single digits. When I was in first grade, we had to memorize addition and multiplication tables from 1-9. 37 years later, that memorization allows me to do that stuff without even thinking about it.

Spelling can be improved a hundredfold by reading, regardless of whether it's fiction or non-fiction. It saddens me greatly when adults can't spell simple words.
