Using the Computer to Write an Academic Text
If you need to write an essay, the computer keyboard is not the best device that you should use to do a good job. Plus the fact that by clicking on the wrong key you can lose all the text that you have already written. These are common excuses a great number of people give for not using this tool to write texts. This essay has the intention to convince people like me, who is not too acquainted with computer, and is always giving excuses for not writing on it, how helpful this device might be when producing an academic text, especially if you do not have much time to do it.
One excuse stubborn people always give is that one can not get inspired when typing on a keyboard. "It is too mechanical", they say. So they would rather write on a piece of paper, and then, after making all the necessary correction, use the keyboard. What a waste of time, of paper, of eraser, and whatever other tool one might use to write. First of all, inspiration do not come out of pens, pencils and paper, it comes out of one’s mind. When using the keyboard to write on the computer screen for the first time, it might seem awkward, but after doing it a few times it will turn out to be an extremely easy task. It is just a matter of practicing, and will save you lots of time. As an old proverb says: "Practice makes perfect".
On the computer the internet may be another reason why people should choose to use the computer instead of a piece of paper to write essays, especially if your paper is almost due. When you need to know more about a subject to improve your text, the best way is to use a device called the internet. As many people already know, on the internet, you can find a lot of information on the subject you are working on, without living your seat to go to a library whose employees might be even on a strike.
Last but not least, computer devices can be very helpful when it comes to correcting spelling and grammar mistakes on your essay before handing it in. When writing without the help of the computer, one must have lots of time to spend looking for the right spelling of the words in a dictionary, and for the correct sentence structure in grammar books. Using computer tools, one just has to right click on the mouse for the spell check and to access some sites to help you find, for instance, which preposition goes with certain verbs.
Concluding, if you had a short time to write and hand in your text and spent the time on writing, erasing, correcting and going to the library to do research like on the old times, you could have used this time to produce a much better essay by just using the computer and its devices.
