Queensland Irish Dance Message Board
This message board is for dancers, friends and families associated with Irish Dance in Queensland, Australia.   • why bother there were 2 judges but instead of 1 judge doing 2 dances and the other doing 1 for some reason all 3 dancers in an age division were judges by only 1 judge. Not a very balanced decision would have liked 2 judges opinions (NT) -- waste of time having 2 judges save the cost and only fly 1 up next year, 26/07/09 6:33:21pm

  • Is state included in the Flora tally? If so how do they do that. Or is the flora tally only the 6 other feis we have up here? If the State is included then the rest of us have no chance as the State Champion will win Flora also. Does not seem fair. It was good to see in the program that Flora points were sort of explain points for entering and points for placing. This encourages us to come to all 6 of the qld comps and put in that extra bit of effort to get placed (NT) -- leave state out gives us a chance, 27/07/09 7:02:44am

• What do dancers do with all their trophies when they retire? Does Qld have like a charity feis like other states where the Seniors donate their trophies to a feis but all the money that would have been used on purchasing trophies is donated to a charity? Also think how nice it may be if say a young beginner gets a trophy that used to belong to a Champion dancer that they have been looking towards for inspiration. They turn over the bottom of their trophy and it has the previous persons name and when and how they won it. Then to look further on when they finish they may pass it back in. It gives more meaning feeling into the trophy. Its also a shame to see them in cupboards under beds or in land fill -- If we don't have it here maybe we should look at it.   • These questions will never be answered. They use to announce in the program if it was a Flora feis or not but when you look at the total points awarded at the end of the year then divide them it appears the all feis are included except the state. Excluding the state is fair as it gives others a chance to win a flora instead of just the state champion winning. Yes not every year the state champ win state and Flora but it gives the rest of us a chance if state is excluded especially if one of the for runners miss a feis then we can catch points up. I just work on how many 1st, 2nd etc a dancer gets. It gives a good indication. But you are right how do you work on individual dances when an overall place is given (NT) -- Points system should be advertised. Why is it a big secret. I am one for an open honest system that way ppl can not complain. Honest and Open is always the best policy except in this case if we don't know how its worked out then sorry but it can always be rigged there is potential for tampering., 17/06/09 6:36:39pm
    • I am sure AIDA members know the system therefor they would have a good idea on how their students are scoring for the award therefor tampering wouldn't happen. I just wanted to know how the points work for a Championships such as the Gold Coast Feis ? A regular feis would just have scores for 3 dances where the Gold Coast Feis has scores for 3 dances from 3 judges PLUS the overall result. (NT) -- Could an AIDA member please respond.   Dublin-based five-piece Gráda have well and truly established themselves as major players in the Irish music scene, but a minimum of 30 weeks touring per year is ensuring that they don’t rest on their collective laurels, just yet.
  
  When you add their numerous individual appearances as side men for the likes of Damien Rice, Chris Martin and Bill Whelan (composer of Riverdance), it’s surprising that gráda can spare the time to visit Australia. What is also clear is that this is no old-man, finger-in-the-ear folk band.
  
  Described as nu-folk, gráda bring their unique arrangements of trad (traditional) tunes and contemporary originals to Australia in June, cramming nine dates on the East Coast into a week-long tour hinging on their special one-off appearance at the National Celtic Festival.
