If that yr of elan had a tillotson carburetor and u haven't ever rebuilt the carb with a new kit? and its not a mikuni carburetor, then I would rebuilt it. Just be careful and remember how it came apart. Very important that it gets put back together exactly the same sequence it came apart. There are diagrams of all the models out there as well. Make sure needle moves freely up and down on it's own weight with both carb systems (tillotson & mikuni) hope it works out for you!
