We had some discussion about this in the office this week...and so di NHC judging by their discussion. If you watch the satellite loop you'll see that a wave came off the nortwest flank of Ivan as it moved northeast into the Atlantic...this wave moved southwest and the high has done its work from there. I was just wondering what people's thoughts were about keeping the same name for this depression.

Keeping the same name sounds kinda iffy. From what you're saying Nick, it sounds like Ivan sorta had "kid". Either that or I'm missing my summer job way too much.

Yeah I think it is kinda shady to keep the same name. Especially since they issued a final statement on Ivan last week and considering the damage it has cause to immediately use it again is poor judgement. If it were the case that the entire vortex stayed together and they were to have tracked it the whole time, I guess it would have been ok, but if this is a smaller vortex that was spawned off of the remnants of Ivan and travelled around the high, by definition it should be a new tropic disturbence and not a continuation of an old one. Just my 2 cents.
