Perussing the posts i saw your question. Same question Iaske dmyself during 1st season. I just happened to have the need to search the web for info on a 60's show called "The Prisoner"...I found websites and the info i needed. That nite i watched Ed..and the answer struck me hard. " StuckeyVille" and "The Prisoner" have overlapping connotations . Both Ed and Prisoner are very surrealistic shows..both explore the human condition...both are about someone trying to find out who they are.. and their relationship with society.
You know something else is going on when...a black American in a wheelchair?....a highschooler who is gar-un-teed to get some sex,,but talks himself out of it??..lol!!..etc..etc
There is part of you that recognizes something different is going on...I mean ...The male lead has facial charateristics of a " Joker" from a deck of cards!...Nothing seems real in the bowling alley..the waitress just floats around,,saying very little...Try to see the show as metaphor and analogy and it no longer frustrates ..it enlightens.......MEL
