Subject: The Realization/Part One

This is a new story I have been wanting to write. Here it is and hope you all like it.

THE REALIZATION

Part One

(beginning takes place that summer when Carrie and Mike are on their way back to Salem from the L.A. trip)

Carrie glanced over at her friend Mike and smiled to herself. He looked so peaceful sleeping there. Carrie gazed at
him for the longest time. She began to feel all these emotions wash over her. She didn't quite understand what was
going on. She had been so scared when Mike had been bitten by that rattlesnake. She was afraid she would lose her
best friend, but he ended up recovering. Something though didn't make too much sense while Mike was delirious from
the snake poison. He had said, "I love you", but Carrie had just brushed it off, thinking it was just nonsense. Carrie
leaned back in the seat and closed her eyes. All the memories of being in L.A. came flooding back to her. She had felt
so at ease with Mike, and he always knew how to make her smile and laugh. He knew the right things to say and do,
and he had never let her down once. He certainly was a wonderful man, and she felt lucky to have him in her life.
Carrie's mind drifted to another man, Austin. Carrie sighed, thinking about what awaited her in Salem. Austin and
Sami would be renewing their wedding vows. Carrie wanted to stop that wedding and punch Sami for trying to ruin
her life.
Mike had just awakened, and he glanced over at Carrie. She seemed to be thinking about something, and he could
tell she was upset. He decided to be bold. He wanted to tell her how he felt about her, how he was madly in love with
her, and how he always wanted to be there for her. Mike touched her shoulder.
"Carrie?" he said.
"Hmmm," Carrie said, opening her eyes. Mike was staring at her.
"Carrie, there is something I have to tell you, and it can't wait any longer," Mike said.
Just then, the train arrived in Salem, and the voice came over the loudspeakers.
"We have now arrived in Salem. Thank you for traveling with us."
"We are finally here," Carrie said. "We can talk later. I have a wedding to stop."
Mike stared wistfully at Carrie as she jumped up from her seat and pulled down her luggage. He sighed. He knew it
was hopeless. Carrie would never know how he felt about her. How could she? She was in love with Austin, and
nothing would ever change that.
He forced himself to get up, and followed Carrie off the train.
