random observations " by music fan Vaughn

Are young singers really that desperate to grab that spotlight
nowadays?
it seems to me that most young singers take too much time on singing,
or acting or anything for that matter. than to their studies. some
even would rather just join a silly game show - just for exposure and
money sake.
this in mind. while im trying to sleep. an intriguing thought came to
my mind and i knew i just have to write it down. why do most of these
youngsters, even though untalented, take their chances on something
so shallow as, yes, pinoy pop superstar.
no offense or anything. but it seems to me that hopefuls are blinded
by the show's popularity and class.
i recall, back on the days im soo willing to audition almost everytime
while waiting for a call from the staff. most of the participants are
just using the show to 1: fulfill a requirement to qualify a job
offering from japan. 2: expose themselves so they can just put
something worthy on their resumes when applying to a band 3:
popularity's sake. seems like the contestants are also using the show
same as the show is using them.
my bottomline is, pinoy pop superstar hasn't proven it's worth yet. i
have to say that it's the only competition that has shallow
judgement, obvious favoritism, and apalling champions.
jonalyn viray, for instance. hasnt won anything yet. her album, wasnt
a definite success... and she's now showing a diva-attitude. as for
gerald... though he's the obvious favorite. is slowly losing his
spark as aicelle and rosemarie slowly tells the nation about the
show's lack of pure judgment.
yes, pinoy pop superstar hasnt proven it's worth. they havent
produced an aliw awardee, or a teen idol even.
and the auditionees know these. but they are too blinded by it's
popularity they forgot it's the show that is popular. not them.
to prove my point. i'll explain it in great detail.
star for a night - produced sarah geronimo. who, without question, is
a star of her own right nowadays. not only her,her parter, mark
bautista has shine as well, musica cristobal is making waves on the
indie scene, same with kim flores, angeline quinto and reema lucina,
also a born diva alumni.
star in a million - produced an aliw awardee with erik santos, a
international star with christian bautista and sheryn regis, a
commercial queen with teresa garcia, a lounge bar queen with marinel
santos and concert artist frenchy dy, who, even though hasnt released
any single or album. is still an in demand on the concert scene.
search for a star - has produced platinum artist rachelle ann go, who
i have to say, the diva of all divas her level.
search for a star in a million - produced indie stars with jona
lumbera, mabel bacusmo, and nikki bacolod, though they failed in
jerome sala... they have gained respect with the season 2's top 3 -
jimmy marquez, tata villaruel and kris lawrence. who are slowly
making their way.
what has pinoy pop superstar produced?
can you now tell me the products of pps?
no, pps hasnt proven their worth. not just pps. any show for that
matter.
the problem i can see is that, there is just no unity between the two
competitions (pps and siam) that the winner on one show get's exposed
and overshadows the other, like the champions overshadowing the
superstars. hard as it seems to admit (especially to those kapuso),
gma going solo is just a bad move. they just dont have that much
partnerships to make their stars bankable... they dont have the
support of myx and other rmn stations, which the masses can connect
with, i believe, that myx alone, can make a superstar out of you. for
the masses love myx. why cant myx support jonalyn viray? coz' she's a
gma artist... does gma have their own successful music channel? no
they dont have. how can they support and give proper publicity to
their winners? when they dont have the proper partners to do that.
abs-cbn has. they have myx, anc, studio 23, rmn radio stations, and
meralco and viva. which makes their products more productive. though
the problem is, "they just have too much winners and champions that
they have to set priorities.
pinoy pop superstar is losing partnership... gma records alone cant
give pps products what they deserve.
and abs cbn is setting too much priorities with it's overcrowded
champions.
as hard as it is to admit. there is almost, almost, no place for
stardom to aspirants like, well, me. it's already a passed glory, and
sarah and company are the lucky ones to have it.
unless we change the way we conduct talent searches into a better,
upcoming hopefuls better face these dark truth.
look at american idol. why is it still so popular, simply because, as
the show ends, the contestants are on their own. even the winner has
to move her/his own feet. they just got a record deal. but fox (the
tv producer of american idol) dont hold any commitment with the
winners or runner ups. the record company does. and they can promote
themselves, anywhere, even to rival networks, coz there are rival of
shows, and not of artist. unlike here, where you are
labeled "kapamilya" if you are an abs cbn artist. and "kapuso" if
you're a gma artist. so because of this, your exposure is limited.
coz a superstar in abs cbn is a starlet to a GMA 7 loyal viewer and a
superstar in GMA is a starlet in ABS CBN loyal viewer.
this is the problem.
and as long as this problem exists.talent searches can never, never
prove their worth.
so you still wanna be a star?
