受到去年底南亞海嘯侵襲，普吉島旅遊業遭到嚴重打擊，可是下個月將舉辦第六屆同性戀嘉年華會，預期來自全球超過五千名同性戀者前來，可為普吉島帶來上億泰銖的收益。
普吉島同性戀協會主席查諾表示，第六屆同性戀嘉年華會將在四月七日到十日在普吉島的巴東海灘展開，內容相當豐富，除海灘上的活動外，另外還會在普吉島街道上遊行，展現一下同性戀者的活力。

查諾指出，今年的活動也帶著特別的意義，尤其是在南亞海嘯後舉辦，希望能夠藉著同性戀嘉年華會的舉辦，重振普吉島的觀光業。

普吉島卡土區警察局警官提拉波指出，同性戀嘉年華會儼然已經成為普吉島的年度盛事，普吉島也成為全球「性產業」的重要據點，警方在嘉年華會期間將加強查緝不合法的未成年性交，讓同性戀嘉年華會能夠在合法的情況下進行。
