Subject: Bleaching Deer Skulls

Hi all. I have been trying to figure a way to bleach my deer skulls using 35% peroxide and not bleaching the back side of the antlers. After posting on another forum, I got allot of replys. All are differnent of course.

I tried coating the antlers and burrs with vasoline last night, and of course it bled thru, and bleached the back side. The peroxide was real foamy on top, and I guess I ruined a gal. of $22.00/gal. peroxide.

I've got one skull coated with silicone on the antlers, and it's dry. I think I will try it. Maybe the peroxide will not melt thru.

It's such a hassel having to restain the antlers, as I have not figured a good way to stain, only using flat latex paint first, so the stain will stick, and I can never find the right color to match.

I was looking for the right kind of container to use, but really a skull, and antlers are shaped in a way, where you can't submerge it without covering the burrs.

What kind of ways do some of you use?

Thanks
