Because of my oh so heavy workload, Mrs. Emerita Calip agreed to share responsibilities in moderating this MB. Her husband, Jodan, is responsible for the over-all look of this forum. Big big improvement! Thanks Jodan and Emee. Congratulations to a job well done!

It's been awhile. This site has gotten dormant, I see. Generally my fault, I have gotten really busy taking care of family and career. It's been a hectic.. hectic year.. A lot of exciting as well as troubling events happened.. Here's just hoping that the upcoming year would bring more blessings to us all. I encourage you guys to go to our Photobucket site (link above) and post some of your holiday pictures. I did post current pictures of the family. Feel free to go to the site, browse and post. If you have problems posting, let me, Emee or Elvin know; we'd be more than happy to assist you.

I was googling my name when I found out that it was posted on the website voy.com,when I checked it out it was then I realized that it has been more than a year since I posted some notes.Anyway, thanks Juanito Lardizabal for the notes, how sweet of you to still remember me. Liz it's been a while since I talked to you sorry I'm really very busy. I sent you a Christmas card hope you did received it. Will you kindly e-mail me your address please? Just a small correction I attended S.A.S. from GR.4 to Gr.6, then transferred back to Manila and I do live in New York for those of you who wants to know, well who cares, right? I somewhat remember Elvin Batac but I am not 100% sure. I do remember Imelda Lamorena, Yvonne Pagaduan ( whom I saw when I went home to Tagudin in 1999 for my grandmother's funeral), Cornelio Lim,
Francis Lardizabal, Edwin Habab, Juliet Lardizabal, Agnes Bayuga, Onofre, Gaudie Dela Cruz.

Subject: Dissecting the English language...

Author:

Date Posted: 04/ 4/08 7:51:37am

Just a little "sumthin'" I read somewhere.. It brought a smile to my face, hope it brings one to yours.. Read on!!

If you ever feel stupid, then just read on. If you've learned to speak fluent English, you must be a genius! This little treatise on the lovely language we share is only for the brave. Peruse at your leisure, English lovers. Following are reasons why the English language is so hard to learn. . . . .

1) The bandage was wound around the wound.

2) The farm was used to produce produce.

3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.

4) We must polish the Polish furniture.

5) He could lead if he would get the lead out.

6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.

7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.

8) A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum

9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.

10) I did not object to the object.

11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid.

12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row. They formed a row on
the side of the canoe.

13) They were too close to the door to close it.

14) The buck does funny things when the does are present.

15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.

16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.

17) The wind was too strong to wind the sail

18) After a number of injections my jaw got number.

19) Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.

20) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests

21) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in
pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.

Quicksand works slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither
from Guinea nor is it a pig. And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham?

If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of both beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it? Is it an odd, or an end?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a
wise guy are opposites?

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out, and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all. That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.

P.S. - Why doesn't "Buick" rhyme with "quick"?

His name is Napoleon Valeriano, Jr from California. He's asking about Saluyot seeds for planting. I had some, courtesy of Mr. Nel Lim, but it's already on the ground. You can email Napoleon, or you can also post your reply to his query here on our MB. I'm sure he's going to be stopping by again soon, right Napoleon? Thanks for visiting, by the way.

This is the last Monday of my thirties - how about that?!? Somehow, I don't remember getting wistful like this when I was ending my teens and twenties... It's all part of mortality, I guess. I definitely have left youth behind forever, chronologically at least ;-)...

With all these years behind me, I'm surprised at how much I have learned, and how much I don't know. Some lessons learned were trivial, and some were shocking. I'm thankful for the knowledge, and for learning that I really don't know enough. However, I am also discovering a new sense of well being that, surprisingly, does come with having lived enough to know what is really important.

I spent some time to reflect on my path, and part of that reflection are the people I have been lucky enough to travel with for a portion of that journey. My stories and tales involve all of you at one time or another.. Without any of you, there would be no story.

Thank you for remembering.....

Ok guys, here’s the deal…

When posting using an assumed name, please refrain from doing this at the expense of other people. It’s ok to use an alias when posting on this MB, kaya lang, you have to make sure na whatever you post, wala kang masasaktan o masa-sagasaang ibang tao. Keep this in mind when posting, please. Let’s try to maintain peace and order dito. Hindi na tayo bata, mga batchmates!!

If anybody has anything against anybody on this board, I suggest you deal with it outside the board, huwag gawing boxing arena itong MB natin. This forum was created as a communication link among Batch 82 grads, family and friends. This is where we meet to see what’s new sa buhay-buhay ng bawa’t isa sa atin. I met and talked to some people I haven’t seen or heard from for the longest – thanks to this MB. I’m sure, in one way or another, this forum has done each and everyone of us some good.

Sana naman, magtagal etong MB natin. But to keep it going, cooperation and consideration is needed all the way around.

This is all Batchmates.

I had a chance to talk to our batchmate, Onofre, Sunday night and today, Monday afternoon (just before his flight home to the Philippines). Thank you nga pala to Alexis, sa pagpapahiram mo ke Onofre nung cell phone mo!

We talked about a lot of things, reminisced about the good ole hi school days. Nakakatawang nakakaiyak nga, eh! We also talked about the restraints placed on him since entering the political arena. Onofre is heavily involved with the governmental goings-on sa Tagudin. He also heads several committees. It is a given that he works 6 days a week. That’s one of his biggest gripes, I suppose – tight sched, parang he’s getting pulled in different directions, and you couldn’t imagine the sacrifices he had to make…. He knew when he ran for office that the position he meant to fill required a high level of commitment, and he intended to fulfill that in every way he can, no matter the circumstances… Onofre, hope you don’t mind if I re-tell your story para sa batchmates natin.. 

Umuwi siya one day, after a long hard day at work. His child approached him.

It broke your heart, you said so yourself. I feel you, Onofre. You didn’t say it word-for-word, pero I get the gist of it.

Here’s the truth, Friend. When I first heard of Alumniana Agustiniana, I had my doubts. And those doubts intensified when I was not getting any feedback to inquiries I made about the program. I kept thinking, “Sooo.. how organized is this organization ba?” “ How come wala man lang communication?” “What’s up with Onofre?”…

I was out of line, and I’m sorry. I would like to blame it on a temporary loss of my so-called sanity, but it’s not true. It was, simply, selfish and idiotic thinking on my part. Same apologies go out to Josie and the rest of the gang there sa Philippines.

We did clear up some issues on the Alumniana Agustiniana Org. I’m going to cover this on my next post for everybody’s benefit. Gusto ko lang matapos ‘tong sulat ko ke Onofre ngayon para makatulog ako mamayang gabi!

More to come…….

A day to treasure...

Don't let today get away from you. It is far too precious to waste.

Give the best of yourself to this day and it will be with you always. Though the hours will quickly pass and the day will end, the value you put into it will go on and on.

Don't postpone your enjoyment of life for another moment. Today is the day to bring the best of your dreams to life.

Do some of those things you've been meaning to do. Get in touch with those people you've been meaning to see.

Today is when you have the opportunity to make something happen. Today is your time to live with all the fullness you can imagine.

This day is here now, ready for you to fill with your own special value. Fill it, live it, and make it one to always treasure.

I just viewed the pictures of Batch 82 and I do recognized some people there whom I had spent my elementary days with, which had given me some memories to recall. Anyways you still look the same, pretty ...................ugly hehehe!!!!!!!!!!!In a few days I will be flying out of the country, going to wherelse........my beloved Philippines. Just came back from our trip to Maui,Hawaii. Place is so gorgeous,breath-taking sceneries and sunset plus romantic seaside restaurants. You should go there.I did read some of the correspondence and I do remember Juliet, she was a little tomboyish then, siya palang pinalit mo sa akin ha well I am back and here to stay.Again congratulations to your recent promotion. Miss You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

As much as I want to see the rest of the Batch, Philippines is just not a possible venue for me at the moment. So, I'd settle for seeing just SOME of you in the flesh - dito sa US. Vegas was mentioned, end of November.. sounds good. Any more ideas?? Gerry mentioned something about summer. I don't know if that's possible since we're almost at summer's end. We wouldn't have a lot of time to plan anything. Pero, let's keep the ideas coming. Hopefully, we can get something ironed out by, at least, end of August/middle of September. Any more ideas on venues - dito sa US?? Nel, ania't makunam?? Emee, agparikna ka! Alexis, what's up, Sunshine?? Dora, dita ayanyo????? Edna, I feel bad na I wasn't able to talk to you when you were here. When I called a couple of days later, you went home sa Pilipinas na. I'm sorry, Friend. Anyway, are you planning on coming back to visit again in the near future?? Please do.

I've spoken with some Batchmates, and it was mutually agreed upon that a REUNION is LONG OVERDUE.

There are some things we need to address to get this thing going. We need to agree on the WHERE and the WHEN. If you guys have any suggestions, ideas.. anything - let us know here on the board. Depending on the input, we just might have to settle on a vote.

For example, I'm thinking of maybe a couple of days.. say in Las Vegas (maybe!). I would need ample time to spring this on my boss :-), so how 'bout November - before Thanksgiving? Flight and Hotel rates are less expensive on weekdays, so you guys might also wanna think about maybe doing it during the week, instead of the weekend-say fly there on a Sunday, and fly back home maybe Tuesday or Wednesday. I already thought about it and.. why not?

Anyway, let's hear what you have to say.. and we'll go by what the majority wants. How 'bout that?
