Well, with PP having to cover off ABC's licensing fees, they were already trying to fund the venture with one hand tied behind their back.

So there we have it -- corporate greed wins at every turn.

Don't tell me that these soaps were losing money, because I just don't buy it. They simply weren't making as much money as other vehicles because they were comparatively more expensive to produce. That doesn't mean that the talk shows and "lifestyle shows" are more popular; just that they need to meet a lower threshold for ROI.

The only option left now is an ABC and ABC sponsor (much more important!) boycott. A Disney boycott. Jeez, I hate Disney!

And how I hate "lifestyle shows" and talk shows and reality shows; I want quality, scripted dramas dammit!!

There is precious little value in these talk shows and lifestyle shows -- I am sick of them, and don't turn them on. People incessantly droning on how to improve this or that, how to live, what to think, dumb celebrity guests... god, how they bore me. I'm not a child, and don't want to be condescended to by people I consider to be less capable or less intelligent than I am, thank you very much.

I've been watching ABC Soaps for about 40 years, ever since I was 4 years old. I remember when Erica Cane was young... what a gift, what an amazing gift, to be able to watch a character and her portrayer through the decades!

I've moved all over the continent, all over the world, I've had my bout of cancer, I've stayed home from work with my babies, and through it all, through grade school, high school, university, I've watched these soaps. They have been one of only a handful of touchstones in my life, things I was able to return to, time and time again. To enjoy the comfort and the continuity of that familiar world.

Bad writing and bad network management has caused a lot of damage in the past dozen years, but there was always hope. AMC lost its edge, GH lost its focus, but OLTL never failed (well, maybe the Eterna storyline...).

This week, for the first time in 10 years, I watched GH, and was struck by what an amazing actor Jonathan Jackson is. I tuned out around the time he left because GH was going off in strange directions, and it was just too much to follow. But Genie Francis, Tony Geary, Jonathan Jackson, John Ingle... well, they are just magic. (shame, shame on ABC for killing off Stuart Damon! and Emily!)

These soaps were a thread that bound my life, and now they are gone...

Well, I am rapidly leaving tv as a whole. There is less and less quality scripted drama, and for the most part, I hate "reality tv".

The current corporations are run by the jerks I met in business school (I quit after a semester because they made me so disgusted). There is no long-term consideration in their analysis, just short-term profit and greed. Well, they've killed the golden goose in their short-sightedness. I am sure that I am not the only one turning completely away from network tv. I've been betrayed too often. They did not care about what made me a loyal viewer and so I am no longer loyal and no longer a viewer in turn.

Network television has been butchered by the same MBA geniuses who destroyed the world economy, and for the same reason.

What a waste.

It's so frustrating mainly because AMC would have concluded differently had they known the show was actually concluding!!
