Subject: I love my new friesian

Hi, When I got my new friesian a year ago as an 8 y.o. he was supposed to be broke to ride, no trainer needed, calm in all situations. Well, he wasn't. He was great at the walk and trot, but would just run at the canter, and very unbalanced, he wanted to just trot really really fast. I had him thoroughly checked over, gave him tons of time to settle into his new home, gave him lots of love. I put him in training full time and my trainer and I concluded (unofficially) that most likely a couple things occured in his life. He was not trained slowly and properly, and mainly trained to drive, in which case they don't canter, and if they do, are reprimanded for it. While I will never know his previous life, he has become a wonderful horse for us, and with patience and love his fun playful personality is coming out. He trusts us very much, and although I do not trust the person I bought him from anymore, we love our boy! So, my advice, give him time, have him checked out, try to find a trainer for some guidance, and spend lots of time w/him so you can get to know each other. Best of luck to you!
