Subject: Any Barefoot Friesians out there?

Hi all:

Has anyone jumped on the barefoot movement yet? I recently did after realizing my gelding was probably shod only for his sale and it was his 2nd shoeing. Now, he is exercised about an hour each day and only on soft arena footing. Turnout is in a non-rocky paddock. There is no trail riding at this time.

Can you please give me some tips on trimming? I have filed a bit myself but am not going to even go there just yet! He has some really big, hard feet!

Any feedback would be great. Based on pictures posted, his feet look really good and the shoes did not do alot of damage. However, he does not get alot of wear and tear and they are going to get really long, fast. I am going to call my farrier tomorrow for a trim while I figure out the best method. In the meantime, my Barn Manager is taking care of the excess but I am not sure if he is experienced enough with a light draft.

I am also overseas and do not know of any professional trimmers which is a problem. Wish I was in the States now!

Thanks!
