] Date Posted: 5/12/06 21:38 Ok, time for a little story, if any of you know Walsall (u.k), there is in an old church, converted into some little shops, one of these, although not a "witch" shop as such, sells all kinds of things (incense, native crafts, crystals etc). So anyway, because the proprieter knows my path, she informed me of the churches absolute dislike of the fact she was selling pentagrams. (turns out they are PENTACLES), It also seems that they took a dim view of her selling Budha's. So whats my groan, well try the fact that the church only maintained enough ground space for a small chapel but they are hell bent on cramping yet another expression of religious freedom. Ok, so don't the christians preach tolerance? (yeah right, more like "worship our god and we'll build big churches on your sacred sites and drown you for your beliefs). Also, seems these boys don't know the difference from a pentacle to a pentagram, I've informed her of the difference and the significance so can only hope that someone at the council tells the god boys to back down. Now lets just imagine the scenario if it was sikhist or islamic icons that they wanted to ban from sale. Or tell them to keep their savior on a leash etc. Or just ignore them and don't get irate over their lameness and ignorance because to be honest I doubt you're very suprised. The irony is that its only the Jehova's witnesses who actually engage in serious conversation re: religious belief, as far as the C.o.E. and the catholics go, its still, "we're right, your wrong and may you burn in hell witch". They are trying to prove their Christianity by making a public show of how opposed they are to anything non-christian. If in fact the Christ light lived in their heart they would not act in this manner. You will find posers everywhere and some in high position but that still doesn't make them Christ like or Christian, they only have the outside appearance but not the inside love. I myself read your initial post as a wish to affirm the dignity of human beings by standing up to those who try to oppress others.....those that bully, cause others pain and suffering. I have not had much luck with JW wanting to engage in a two way conversation myself. Then, when the police come say "Well officer, I was minding my own business when suddenly these people tried to get me and my cat. I can't believe they're trying to steal your cat as well!! (hmmm I'd be tempted to stick "this property is under CCTV surveillance" notices on the doors/windows... might just make them think twice). I agree with what Pilgrim was saying - and try not to let it colour your view of other religious groups as a whole... I've met individuals and have friends from other faiths who have been lovely and not pushed their religion down my throat or told me I was wrong. IMO those who are happy on their chosen path and 'at one' with their own religion are the ones who don't give off negative attitudes towards others. In our country there are (almost) no shops in Churches at all, and maybe because of that I don't like any shop in a church (even an icon shop or so). I think sacred place should be a sacred place and nothing more. It should be a place for prayer, meditation or anything, that makes us closer to which we call God or so. Maybe it's the main problem - we don't have really "sacred places". My personal problem is, that as practising Christian I'm often called a "psycho",or worse. People are convinced I don't drink beer, have no sexual life, no mind, no personality, no individual decisions, that I hate every pleasure, sleep on nails, beat my children etc :-) . I think though if they are going to have rules about what you can sell they should make it clear in the beginning so a person can decide if they want to rent a space there or not. It is funny how because a person has different religion than most of those around them how so many strange rumors get started about how they live. Sleeping on nails. LOL What country do you live in? I wouldn't be surprised if many of us here have experienced such prejudice due to our path (I have on numerous occassions) or for other reasons ie) ill health, disability, race, financial situation etc etc. I find it so very sad and painful that there are some beings actually believe that hatred and intolerance is the only way to live their lives and the suffering this creates in our world..... However, I don't think this particular thread was concerned with 'the right to have shop in a Church' rather the fact that this particular Church was allowing some shops, but was prejudiced against one particular shop because of the items they were selling. If they're going to allow 'commerce' to take place in the Church then they've already 'gone against Jesus' so they shouldn't really be complaining about what type of things a shop sells there... erm... if that made sense! I'm sorry to hear about the intolerance you have encountered Kajah. As I said earler, no-one has the right to attack anyone else for their personal beliefs. Date Posted: 13/12/06 13:08 The building is de-consecrated, There is a massive christian shop in it but as far as the building is concerned, it is now owned by the council not the church. My original point was that although the church surrendered all rights to the building itself (except a small chapel), they are kicking up a stink. I think i'm being mis-understood in the context of this thread, It is aimed at a minority who make a scene whenever what they percieve as unacceptable comes to light. This was not a christian bashing excersise, I know that we are all not witches but the one thing i've found is that we are tolerant to others no matter what is believed, Religious freedom means just that, All religions. Anyway Kajah, don't worry about your english, its better than most of which is spoken here in Walsall lol. If I have offended you or anyone here, please accept my heartfelt apologies.
