] Date Posted: 21/10/07 18:35 For the last few days I have been thinkng how nothing seems to fit in to the seasons anymore. On Friday I was in the greengrocer buy some apples, parsnips and plums. As I was buying the items I notice that there was stawberry and peaches which seem so out of season. I think that it is sad that we have become so demanding for things in this world that now everything seems so out of place for the time of the year.If we all worked with nature we would all be better off! Love and blessings to All Katie [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |

Date Posted: 22/10/07 12:32 here here!!! i'm lucky in the fact our local greengrocer produces his own food.... so we have seasonal fruit/veggies etc almost at the door. i agree with you, 2 doors down from the greengrocers, is a co-op store and they have well out of season fruits in there, but they come from spain or all over the place just not britain!!!! with love sam xxxxxxxx [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 23/10/07 9:16 I only buy seasonal. It makes the wait for strawberries etc worth while, It is frightening to think of the waste of resource and ackaging to fly fruit and veg around the world. I use our local farm shop and a local butcher, when its in season, i buy it, when it isn't, well tough Mitakuye Oyasin Paganwolf )0( [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 23/10/07 18:50 Ditto Paganwolf. As a society we rely too much on food which isn't from our region, on non-seasonal food (often I don't think people realise just how far there food has travelled) - society continues to want everything NOW (and exactly how/when/where they want it). Sadly this town is seriously lacking a decent fruit and veg shop - it's crazy, but it was easier to buy locally produced (and tasty) foods when we lived in Cardiff than it is here! It does at least have a local butcher shop but it looks like that will be closing soon. I agree that the seasons aren't as we 'expect' them to be... (we've got some snowdrops on there way up for a second time this year!!) but then, Nature moves on and we're still trying to get her to follow our timetable. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
