Today i went with the school children (special needs) to a 'Riding for the Disabled' place.
I wish you guys could have been there, my heart hurt watching their little faces.
Some of the children who i thought would not even go near the horses were the ones who loved it the most.
They all got a turn on the horses, who by the way were amazing. The staff were fantastic, i cannot praise them enough, they do so much for these children and to see the look on their faces is priceless.
Needless to say i cried, i felt so humble, i felt like i was witnessing something so beautiful ( do i sound sad?)
I'm just lucky to be able to do these things.
There was one little girl in a wheelchair.....i don't think her arms were very strong either....who gave such a big smile when she sat on her pony, i felt like the pony had given her legs....you know what i mean?
Soz for the mushy stuff i just wanted to share it with you, it's those 'moments' in life that make it special.
Big hugs and bright blessings, love heather.xxxxx

That is wonderful! :-) Special needs children can teach us soooo much. It really can be a privilege to work with them.

hevva that's beautiful..........
my ex-boyf's nephew is 'special needs' he has fragile x which you have probably experienced at your work... he used to adore his horse riding sessions and he would come home with the most joyous smile on his face and go all shy when we asked him what he had done that day, he loved 'his' horse 'blackie' and it was a genuine love too.... unfortunatley some nasty person/people set fire to his school recently and 18 years of his ( and all the other students ) work went totally up in flames... needless to say everyone who knows / family etc the people and the school are in utter shock and devistation. it's awful what some humans do.
at least he has his photo's of him riding blackie and other activities such as school trips to spain, cooking lessons , drama group etc ... although it is such a shame what has happened.... heather, i admire you , and i miss my ex's nephew so much, when we went on holiday once i can remember asking my ex what i should wear that night to go to dinner, and his nephew looked at me and said... "i think you should wear your black dress... you look nice in your black dress and i love you" and it was said with such honesty that i almost cried... bless 'im !!
anyway enough of the sentimental stuff... well done heather, i am so glad for you .. you obviously enjoy your work so much and you have real feelings, it's not just a job to you, and it's nice to know there are people like you around !!
three cheers''!!

Hip Hip Hooray (x3 lol)

love sam xxxxx

Hi Sam,
thanks for that. Yes i really do love my job, i think I'm the lucky one who gets to spend time with these children. I think that is horrible about the school. If they ever catch who did it i think they should be responsible for rebuilding the school better than how it was before.
Big Hugs Sam...and everyone.

Hey Heather
I know exactly what you mean about those moments. I work with children who have autism. I get the best feeling from the littlest things. Just being able to make a child giggle and smile makes me feel that I am doing something worth while. You are right Pilgrim, it is a privilege to work with such amazing children.

Heather, you truly are blessed arent you hun.

I remember last year, a group I am actively involved with invited a group of teenage girls from Belaruse, Chernobyl who had come to the UK for a set amount of time to receive dental and eye care as well as breath in our fresh air. Its sad that the events in Chernobyl all those years ago are still affecting so many lives, a large number of whom werent even born then.

Anyway, some struggled more than others but standing on the slipway watching their beaming smiles and listening to their shrieks of delight really brought home to me how very lucky I am and particularly, as I have a teenage daughter also, how very priviliged a life she has. I am pleased to say that it was a sunny day and I hid my tears behind my sunglasses. We take so much for granted sometimes and these kind of reality checks are just what we need sometimes.

Bless you Heather for your wonderful patience and skills in not only supporting these children but also for wanting to help make their lives a little better. You truly are a very special person and I am honoured to call you my friend.

Blessings to you and everyone here in the Garden.

Lil
