] Date Posted: 20/02/07 20:57 i went to my docs the other day, he sent me for some blood tests at my local hospital.... i had asked a few of the nurses at work what the initials such as rbs ca125 etc on my form meant..... (i work in a hospital) they knew all the ones i did. the usual thyroid test, liver function,kidney and anemia etc... (rbs i later found out stands for random blood samples) when i got to the hospital yesterday and asked the nurse what the tests were for, she told me all the ones i knew already, then told me that ca125 is a test for ovarian cancer..they are also testing me for stem cell cancer too, as i think a few of you know, i had cervical cancer 3 years ago and still have regular check ups with my consultant ... my doc has asked the hospital to forward the results to my consultant... i am ok with everything in a weired way... but every now and again the thought passes thru my mind that i may have cancer again.... i don't actually know what i will do when the doc calls me to make an appointment to see him...snowtiger came with me to the hosp and insisted on coming in with me when i had my blood tests done....i was saying to him when i had cancer last time (fortunatley i 'only ' needed a hysterectomy ) which might sound funny to some but i didn't need further treatment like chemo or anything...... i lost a lot of hair , well. my hair went really thin and i had to get a lot cut off to strengthen it and just wait for it to start to thicken up again.... (which was an awful feeling) if (and only if) i do have stem cell or ovarian cancer, i will need radiatherapy or chemo... meaning loosing my lovely long hair that i have looked after and managed to grow long again.... and it may sound vain but my hair is a big part of me and who i am.... i'll stop waffling on....... please take a second to think about me feeling a bit sorry for myself. i need a HUGE ammount of faith in myself to get me through it again.... love sad sam xxxxx [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |

Hold on to what ever strength you can, I know its a bit of a cheesey thing to say, and rich coming from me who is not ill at all (touch wood) but the rule of thumb is we are not given anything that we cant cope with. I know it will be hard to lose your hair, but IF you have to, just think - after the treatment it will groe back, and it will be a wonderful sign of your returning health and strength. Date Posted: 20/02/07 21:43 Lovely Sam, take each day as it comes and try not to give any more room to worry...these thoughts feed on themselves.I always thought the best thing to do is to talk about the thoughts that are there, even if you go over the same thing...these thoughts are better out than in no matter how often you say them. Date Posted: 21/02/07 11:52 Sam, I am very sorry to hear all this - I remember how frightened I felt when I had tests for ovarian cancer before my hysterectomy - i was shaking and crying when i went to get the results ... we always tend to think the worst. However i am sure that all these tests are routine when you have had cancer before. The doctors have to be seen to be checking everything thoroughly. I presume then that you didn't have your ovaries removed during the hysterectomy? - maybe because of your age. My thoughts are with you Sam - sending love and strength until you see the consultant. I am sure that if anything were amiss, they would be seeing you immediately and therefore no news will be good news! I used to work in a hospital and have had my share of ailments (nothing compared to yours though). I do think that being in a medical environment can somethimes make things worse. If you dont know, you can ask someone that does and you see so many poorly (even dying) people that it does make your mind work overtime sometimes. As Rowan says, Im sure these tests are pretty routine due to your past history. Try to take one day at a time - we are all here with you - I just got this picture in my mind of you sitting with your Consultant surrounded by all us Garden folk (hope he has a big consulting room!). You and your Consultant cannot see us but you can feel us all there with you, holding your hand and hugging you. May your days ahead be calm, peaceful and filled with light. Date Posted: 22/02/07 19:27 well, i called the docs this morning and the receptionist told me my results were back, but she could not tell me over the phone, then she said the doc would have called by now to say if there was anything to worry about and he hasn't called so there's (i hope) nothing to worry about!!! i just hope i am not jumping the gun so to speak, but i have to wait til 7th march to see my consultant to get the proper results, thanx for all your help and support through this very trying time for me.... ps snowtiger kept 'my' candle burning all night last night and he tells me to send his love to everyone xx all our love sam and snowtiger!! xxxxxx :o) [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

If you are still worried about the Doc calling, you could always call them again and ask the question "I presume that as I havent heard from the doctor, the results dont show anything significant and are nothing for me to get worried about?". Dont worry that you are wasting their time - its what they get paid for & if it puts your mind at rest until you see the Consultant then its worth it. YAY all i had to do was have some bloods taken to see how much blood supply my ovaries are getting (or not as the case may be!!) apparently it's common after the sort of surgery i had for the ovaries to kind of be a bit restricted of blood, sending hormones out of control.... if there's anything wrong then that's it!!! all they will do if that is the case is put me on some meds to replace the hormones that i am not getting!! i'm rather happy with that outcome!! thank you all so so very much for your support, blessed be ever your garden friend Sam xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
