Hello SoR

Good to see you in the Garden again. I hope you are well.

We have some green compost growing on our veggie patch over winter and are discussing what crops to plant where for this year - wont be long before we will be planting again. We will probably grow the usual potatoes (which so far have been very successful - earlys and lates), green beans, parsnips, courgettes, garlic, tomatoes and onions. The sweetcorn wasnt very successful this year and the peas never made it to the pan! (they got eaten by moi!). Our strawberry patch has gone rampant over the autumn/winter months so we are hoping for a good crop. Tried some peppers a couple of years back but they werent too successful, so I might try them again this year.

What are you planning to grow this year?

Lil

Hi SoR - good to see you in the Garden :) how are you?
Well... we have the lovely big garden down the road to work on and the owner wants lots of lovely fresh veg (and has let me choose a spot to grow herbs on too!!) and plenty for the wildlife. The veg patches were turned over and cleared up just before Yule so this week I'll be doing a little bit of weeding and I've been planning what to grow where... lots of seeds to order in this week. So far on the list for definate : pots, toms, peas, beans, onions, shallots, cabbages, cauliflower, lettuce, leeks... with some green manure plants and possibly also spinach and sweetcorn. There will be plenty of wildflowers around too and many herbs - since we started working on the garden the birds have started coming back, so lovely to hear them singing away and they're getting very sociable too. Before Yule we also made a new compost bin area and plenty of log piles and leaf pile borders for insects, bugs, hedgehogs and the likes. I really must get some photos up to show how much the garden has already changed!
In my own little garden... well it's a courtyard with a couple of little flower beds (which the cats have made full use of!) but I'm looking forward to making it a proper little garden! We had cleared out the flower beds (they were full of rocks and building rubble when we moved in) and filled them up with lovely compost, but now I'll have the lovely job of clearing up after the cats - but I have some gholly sprigs to lay over parts of it to deter them lol. (We also have a raised decking area so we can sit out at night and watch the stars) :) It's going to be a very busy year here - but gardening is always good!
What plans have you got for your allotment this year Sor?
