Paganism is a broadly used definition of anyone who doesn't follow the established religions, In point of fact, christianity has stolen many ideas, Festivals and sites for their own religion from pagans in the past i.e.

churches built on pagan sites, festivals modified i.e Oestra becomes easter, Yule becomes christmas.

Remember the crux of chritianity is the resurrection of Jesus Christ but the question is, where was he placed after the crucifiction to which the answer is in the womb of mother earth.

(not christian bashing, just using it as an example)

Paganism itself is a conglomeration of matriarchal religions whereas the more modern religions are Patriarchal, i.e Jesus Christ, Allah, etc

To the man in the street, it is easy to lump paganism in with new age thinking but new age thinking is broadly based in pagan roots i.e a love of mother earth

Remember, the 'newest' of the ancient pagan sites is at least 5000 years old so we've been round a long time.

As for witches, the witch used to be the old wise woman who knew the ways of the land, herbs and natural cures,

The cliche witch is the image drawn up by William Shakespeare of the pointed hat and the hook nose, (the pointed hat is probably the hood of a cloak)

Paganism encompasses many ideas but all with the same spirituality, i.e. witchcraft, druidism, shamanism,
All different thinking but of the same root basis, the love of gaia herself, Henges, circles avenues all served the religions in there own way.

In answer to your post, i'd be more inclined to re-iterate what I suggested earlier that new age thinking is yet another varient on ideas but more firmly rooted in the old ways rather than the more structured religions.

Harm ye no-one

Blessings

Wolf
