That's funny, Mary....I like your idea of just inducting all the crap now and get it over with, so they can get to the good stuff. LOL

I'd love to see Dan recognized too, but I have my doubts about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There's always controversy and criticism over the selection process and who gets in and who doesn't. And it all just seems like such an ambiguous concept anyway.

Not only is the selection process dubious, but everyone has their own idea of what constitutes rock and roll. The Rock Hall promotes the idea of honoring rock, it's roots, and it's evolution. And it seems that everything that came before rock is embraced as the roots of rock and roll, and everything that came after is part of it's evolution. So that pretty much covers everything, right? The Rock Hall just doesn't have a clear beginning or end. Maybe they just should've come up with a better name for it.

I have no love for rap or hip-hop, or whatever they want to call it. I don't consider it the evolution of rock, but that's just my opinion. At the same time, though, some of the music that is said to be the "root" of rock and roll, doesn't sound like that to me either.

What would be the evolution of rock anyway? What I consider rock is still rock and it's still happening...it's evolved into more rock...lol. I don't like disco, metal, or punk, but I'd say they were all closer to rock than rap. But they're still not rock. And does it even matter? It's all music to somebody, I guess. So, they should just call it the "Music Hall of Fame - It's Roots and Evolution". That way they wouldn't have to try to define rock.

But that still leaves the tough question of who is worthy of being inducted. It's like a beauty contest....it's all in the eyes, or ears, of the beholder. And I have no love for beauty contests either.

Seems whenever someone who is considered more folk-rock, or soft-rock, is nominated, there's always criticism that they don't belong in the rock hall of fame. I'd hate to read the crap the critics would write if Dan were nominated, so maybe it's just as well for now. The sorrow of his passing is still too fresh to have to deal with the idiot commentary from folks who can't appreciate his genius. We hear enough of that already. Although, of course, I'd love to see him recognized for all of his incredible musical talents.

He may get in the Rock Hall eventually though. Jackson was inducted a few years ago, and Leonard Cohen last year. I think JT, Joni Mitchell, and Paul Simon are in there. If they're all rock and roll enough to be selected, then Dan is too. Anyway, he's rock and roll and everything else enough for me!

Diney, I agree with you that he most certainly should be in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. No question about it. There's no ambiguity there. You're either a songwriter or not. And Dan is definitely a songwriter....and the best, in my opinion. And no one could argue, (not with any merit at least), that his songs didn't have a profound influence and served as the soundtrack to so many people's lives. If he isn't honored as a songwriter, then it's all complete bull, and these fancy hall of fames aren't worth paying any attention to whatsoever.

Dan rules!! He's in OUR Hall of Fame! And better yet, he's in our hearts, forever.

Kelly
