Well, here it is, May 2, 2009.
It's pouring rain outside, buckets. Any other day I would say, whatever, but today is the biggest day in Kentucky(yes, even better then basketball finals)
Today is Derby Day. To most people in Kentucky, horses are not a big deal, we see them in the fields & say, "yeah & pretty"
But today at 6:00pm, 75% of all Kentuckians will be in front of their tv's watching our race. Yup, OUR RACE. The Kentucky Derby is known as the most exciting 2 minutes in sports. Darn right it is.
As they begin to play 'My old Kentucky home' we will all sing it out proud or at least mouth the words, with a lump in our throats. How many other state songs make people do that?

So, on this cloudy & rainy day, I say....Grab a piece of derby pie & make a mint julip & watch our Derby.
For you that don't have a mint julip, chew a piece of doublemint gum & chase it with fine Kentucky Bourbon!
As for the pie, it's pecan pie with chocolate chips!

I will cheer on 'Join in the dance'. What a name for a horse! Wonder where in the world they came up with that?
Sound rather poetic to me.....

I sure wanted to make a Derby Pie, but I'm here all alone and you KNOW I would eat the whole thing myself. So I ate a Hershey bar with brown sugar and pecans crumbled on the top and chased it down with a bottle of makers mark.

I was there in spirit! I have been to Ky. All I can say is WOW. Horse Park is beautiful. I cheered on and was hoping Join in the Dance would hold the lead but what an amazing finish.
