"Beard or no beard;" kidding, just kidding.

However, I WILL say that I would have given my left anything to have had the opportunity to lend Dan my guitar and watch him put it through its paces. And then I would have had it scraped for DNA. (Kidding, just kidding.)

And what would you have done with that DNA? Cloned him? Hmmm....

Hi Lori!
I agree-LOL!!while I love ANY picture of Dan--there surely are far better pics to post than THAT one!! I sure hope they vote in favor of this tribute--Dan deserves this!! What a wonderful tribute to have one of his songs inscribed on a boulder!! Which song do you think they should put it?? I vote for "Illinois"...

Sorry about the previous post. I just spoke what's on my mind! The answer to the question "Who suggested a boulder?" is none other than our Diney Boo. And it's a great idea. I'd like to see either:

1) http://www.thelivinglegacy.net/Library/ContrastBrn.jpg or
2) http://danfogelberg.com/danattwilight.html --just the face

#1 might not work in sculpture; it might end up looking like the face on Mars. But #2 would look good if they could get his face looking toward the river.

I wonder which song they will select to be put on the bolder ? The River ? I love that song. It would be my guess Leader of The Band will win out though. They should ask the fans, but they will probably go by the popularity of the song and I do suppose Leader of The Band was most popular. Any suggestions ??

You're probably right, and "Leader of the Band" would honor both him and his father; but I also like the lines "Illinois, I'm your boy," and "There's a place in the world for a gambler," if they're just going to use one line. I think "River of Souls" would be great, also, especially the lines,

"To every man the mystery
Sings a different song
He fills his page of history
Dreams his dreams and is gone"

The theme of rivers ran so deeply through so many of his songs, didn't it?

I would love to see a similar memorial in Deer Isle with the lyrics to "The Reach" written there. And another in Pagosa Springs, maybe with some lines from "The Wild Places."

Much respect to those folks for the time and effort spent to make this happen. It's a wonderful way to remember Dan and create a lasting tribute. I read that the proposal was unanimously approved....way to go Peoria! Now we just need info on contributing. I would think if they're able to get the word out through Dan's email list, it shouldn't take too long to raise the funds.
