Questions for Fanfest "Regulars"

I've never been to Fanfest before this year and have never been to California. So I'm not sure what to expect. The schedule posted online doesn't have much detail which makes it seem a little boring. On Friday, we watch episodes, visit, have a free afternoon, & in the evening booths open. On Saturday we watch more video, have a Q&A, and then the evening auction. On Sunday, there's the pool party.

I realize the set visit was a key part of the schedule in past years, and of course we can't do that this year. The auction and the booths, though, I understand are loads of fun. And yes, I'm looking forward to meeting fellow HBers and I know it probably will be the last opportunity to do that. But I don't swim, so the pool party or lounging by the pool isn't appealing to me.

My questions are: Is watching the episodes and the video as a group something interesting to do? Are there other things going on that are not part of the official schedule? Do you ever take side trips as a group or rent a car to see other attractions in the area? I would like to do that, because as I said, I've never been to California before to do sightseeing and "touristy" things.

I hope I'm not insulting anyone (especially the hard-working organizers) by asking these questions. That is not my intent. I'm new to this, and don't know what to expect. Maybe some of the Fanfest regulars could "adopt a newbie" for three days to help us along.

Last year was my first year attending. Here is my take on things. The absolute best part of the whole event for me was meeting and socializing with the other HBers and JAG fans. The loss of the set visit is a big loss, I'd say, but the video being presented instead sounds interesting. The booths can be fun, and don't forget much of the "booth time" is spent meeting the guest actors who attend. The auction is great fun and lasted well into the night last year! As for the pool party, I'm not a swimmer either, but we had lunch provided and the social time was very worthwhile. Several groups of people did do "outside" things, driving to other locations, going out to dinner, etc. The key to that is to find someone with a car who is willing to drive a little. For some of us troublemakers, um, I mean regulars at FF, the official events were just a backdrop for all the silly fun we had meeting and playing with one another. Yes, several side trips (we won't mention certain ladies climbing the fence at the Red Cross Building in Pasadena (alias JAG hdqtrs) and trying to hide from security guards LOL. Arininda, I won't even miss the set visit this year. I enjoyed it the first year, but not last year. They didn't take us into Harm's apartment for a start. Sunny and Shygirl are right. The fun is meeting all the people, particularly the other HBers. You will not be left on your own for sure. The pool party is a great barbeque, and again, it gave us time to meet others. Last year, Sunny and I must have yakked for two hours straight about literature. If you have a suit, bring it as there are some outdoor hottubs. And when you see the Harmequin, you'll fall in love. - Last year the only place cameras were strictly forbidden was on the set tour. That's not a factor this year, and you'll definitely want a camera to get pictures of you with all of the guests. Last year was my first Fanfest. I did a lot of side trips and skipped some of the FF stuff to go sightseeing and shopping. You'll definitely want to be around both Friday and Saturday nights. It's so much fun to walk around and socialize and meet the actors and buy raffle tickets and bid on auction stuff. Other than that, do what interests you. It's a very casual atmosphere- the hotel isn't very big so there are lots of jagfans always strolling about - you find yourself sitting at the pool, the bar, the outdoor tables, the bar, the lobby, the bar.. just chatting and laughing and having fun - did I mention there's a bar? I suspect it wouldn't be unreasonable to ask the hotel about an organized tour and maybe that way folks who have never been to LA and don't have cars can get lost for a day doing that. I'm not planning on leaving the hotel until it's over. Last year we skipped out on the pool party because we thought it was a little slow moving - (I don't do bathing suits) and we missed the bloopers reel. I don't want to miss anything this year. - Hmmm, let me check. We have three partially used lipsticks, a broken necklace, four almost empty TicTac boxes, an empty Altoids tin, some lint, a few stale sticks of gum and someones credit card.
