6/16/06 - Ana Laura, Brandon Heath, Brian Littrell @ House of Blues - Chicago, IL

Ana sang three short songs. She has a sweet personality and was alright musically, but the "like omg like teenie like this kiddie cocktail is soooo good girls" behind me really ruined the experience.

Next, Brandon Heath took the stage for another short set. He reminded me of a Tony Lucca. I knew his song "Don't Get Comfortable" from his myspace and really enjoyed it live with crowd interaction. Again, it took all I had in me not to wack the crazies behind me that would randomly scream at quiet parts of the music just to get attention.

Both opening acts were done in about 50-minutes(including set change inbetween), but it took Brian another 40-mins to hit the stage. He was worth the wait though. He's my favorite BSB, but his performance far surpassed my expectations. It was a fairly small crowd(only about half the HOB floor was filled), but I guess a far bigger showing than Milwaukee that they had to cancel. Brian came out and opened by playing guitar. He really interacted with the fans. Took all the gifts people passed up to him and posed when he saw people taking pictures. He picked out faces in the crowd and referenced specific fans throughout the show like the girls that had tix for the Milwaukee show. He even knew when one girl who was in the back snuck up to the front to give him something! He responded to people's shouts. It was pretty darn cool because it wasn't thattt small of a crowd. Seemed genuinely very happy to be there and share his inspiration. He told quite a few stories about his life and the making of the songs. The one that really touched me was about the song "Gone without Goodbye," which was written in part because his wife was supposed to be on one of the planes that crashed on 9/11. The song always gave me shivers, but now it really does. Emotion just oozed as he told that story and sang it acoustically. One of my favorites from the album is "Angels and Heroes," and I've thought it sounded a bit Teddy Geiger-ish. Turns out that Billy Mann wrote/produced it, so I was totally right in that connection. "We Lift You Up" performed live is WOW! Brian has a great, strong voice. At one point Brian had the big HOB screen come down to just above his head. He played us a rough cut of his new video for "Welcome Home" as the band played the music for it. That was a neat touch. He sang a couple BSB songs, and told fans they're going back into the recording studio in a week with hopes of maybe getting an album out by the end of the year. The fans wanted BSB's "That's What She Said" because it was a song Brian wrote. He broke down and sang a verse a-cappella before doing his encore song. Afterwards he tried signing autographs as the stage curtains were closing on him. He just stood in front of the curtain and signed for a bit. Johnny Wright came out and grabbed him by the shirt to pull him away. Brian kept signing and Johnny was laughing, but finally had to yank him. Nope, I didn't get an autograph :( All in all, I was impressed, and VERY impressed with his stage presence.

[> [> Thanks for the review and link to your pics, Janelle. Sounds like a fun night! Dax mentioned a few weeks ago that Billy was playing with Brian. I didn't realize his wife was supposed to be on one of the flights. Wasn't one of the road crew guys for BSB or 'NSync on one of the flights? I seem to remember that. I'd like to hear Brian's song--it sounds like it was really moving. -- Lynn, 22:36:43 06/17/06 Sat [1]

[> [> [> Yes, one of their crew members(he had worked with both groups) died on a plane. I remember BSB paying tribute to him at a concert I went to a week after 9/11. Prior to last night, I'm not sure if I knew his wife was supposed to be on that flight, too. And poor choice of words in my review..."Gone without Goodbye" was done with acoustic guitar...not acappella. Lyrics to the song inside. Lynn, check your email in a little bit. -- Janelle, 23:45:00 06/17/06 Sat [1]

Gone Without Goodbye

Have you seen my son?
Not too tall, 5'8"
She held up a coloured copy, photograph
From his wedding day
And this is his pregnant wife
Carrying his last dream
He walked down 46 floors before he felt the rush
The rush of gasoline

I can feel the pain
Looking in their eyes
But I don't know gone without good-bye
If I could reach the sky
I'd bring him right back to your arms
Though I haven't seen your son, he's forever in my life

Have you seen my little girl?
She's got curly black hair
She took this Raggedy-Ann doll, everywhere
Last I saw her over there
Then I heard a plight of screams
And a speeding van
I watched these tears pour down
A father's last attemp of being a rational man

Though I can feel the pain
Look into his eyes
But I don't know gone without good-bye
If I could reach the sky I'd bring her right back to your arms
Though I haven't seen your girl, she's forever in my life

Mm mm, Ohh

And have you seen my faith?
It can run, it can hide
Jesus mend this breaking heart of mine
That keeps on loving life

Though I can feel the pain
Look into my eyes
But I don't know gone without good-bye
If I could reach the sky
I'd try to turn the world around
So that we could see the face of forever
Stay alive

[> [> [> Yes, one of road crew is Danny Lee, carpenter, who was working for BSB that time and he did worked for *NSYNC before, also. I once went to master class with Wade Robson where he did the fundraising to help the costs of funeral fees for Danny Lee's family. And, nice photos Janelle. :) -- Busta, 16:39:47 06/18/06 Sun [1]
