[> [> There's sure been a lot of negative publicity about MySpace.com, but I guess it's like anything else, it can be useful or harmful depending on the individual. (more inside). -- Lynn, 15:24:14 04/16/06 Sun [1]

There are so many dangerous people out there trolling the internet, it's almost an impossible job to find and arrest them all. It's so easy for members of an online group to think they are just having a casual conversation among friends and post info way too personal. Back in the day (of NSync world domination), there were dozens of young new posters here daily, and many were giving way too much personal info about themselves, not realizing that literally anyone could be reading it. I used to delete many personal posts just for their protection, and offer advice on how to post in a safe way on the web.

A lot of what I've read previously on MySpace has raised those same concerns and disbelief that so much information is offered up willingly. Mostly it's just harmless shallow stuff, and lots of "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" with Adds & such. Nothing new from the marketing message of years past, just in the delivery system.

I'm sure all of you are mature enough to stay away from obvious trolling by less than savory types online, but some of these people are very clever and extremely unscrupulous. Warning (wearing parent hat): Be careful out there kids, it's a dangerous world in many online communities, including the "friendly" MySpace.com neighborhood.

[> [> [> Yeah, I've seen a lot of the negative publicity, too. The main reason I joined was to find peope that I had lost touch with. And it's been great finding them. Of course I get a lot of emails from guys I don't know and I just read them and delete them. It's up to the individual not to divulge too much info. I don't share really personal info unless it's someone that I personally know. So far it's been fun...but I have one eye open (so to speak), too. I'm watching my back. :) -- Brooke, 16:23:32 04/16/06 Sun [1]
