Awww, that's a sweet story! Doc seems like a great guy for giving a little kid a chance and continuing to believe in him. I had a success story this year that almost got me teary-eyed when I told the student how proud I was of him. He was a senior student consistently earning low D's from me. 4th quarter (when senioritis sets in for all), he buckled down and was doing A work. It was the hardest material of the year, and he said it was so much easier. If only he would have come in for help 5-mins here and there throughout the year. I even overheard him offering to tutor his friends! Amongst all the things that seniors have going on at the end of the year, he tried re-learning a whole quarter's worth of info, and had a successful final exam. With his new found confidence, he told me he was going to spend his first couple weeks after graduation studying to re-take the math portion of his college's placement exam. I can only hope he carries these skills and lessons into college. -- Janelle, 16:06:27 06/04/06 Sun [1] |
