She didn't melt into his hug, didn't even really relax enough to return it. He had hurt her feelings and while she was a mature girl at most times, she still didn't deal with rejection well. Drawing back from his embrace, she ran her hands over her face one more time to erase any sign of the tears before she cleared her throat.
