The lead garbage man was Sam and the mailman was Walter. Like most of the other houses in California Ridge, our phone numbers were New Rochelle. I still remember our number; it was NE 2-8105. Our house was the last one on the milkman's schedule. Both my mother and Johnny were interested in refinishing furniture and if she was working on something and he had a little extra time before he had to get back to the dairy, he would help her if she had any problems. I remember working on school reports at the Eastchester Library and the librarians asking us to please keep in down but we never got kicked out. I am sure I will be able to come up with more.
