I also lived on Channing Place (#22) and don't remember fire whistles. We were close enough to EHS to walk there in about 5 minutes to see if school was open. My radio was tuned to NYC rock n roll stations (WABC, WINS) so I didn't hear local reports about school closings. Should have known better when it was snowing. BTW, Cousin Brucie (Bruce Morrow) is still on Sirius XM and still sounds pretty much the same, not bad for a man in his 80s (born 1937).
