I don't know if this topic had been covered but Eastchester can't be discussed without mentioning it's little league. I played on it in the mid sixties and still can't get over what a great field it was. It was run very professionally. We had a structure behind home plate that housed the concession stand (where the players would get free hot dogs and a drink) as well as the announcers "booth" on the 2nd level. I lived nearby and every weeknight I'd hear the players' names announced as the game progressed. The field also had a scoreboard in centerfield where kids manually operated the scoring as well as balls and strikes.
I personally wasn't the most talented player ( I did a lot of bench sitting) but it was such a thrill to be playing for the league. There was a lot of talent at the time (there were tryouts so you had to be a decent player) and I remember hearing these tales of kids hitting these long blasts up to the bridge over the train tracks!
Another memory is of the regional playoffs where they'd have filled grandstands out beyond the outfield and Captain Jack MCarthy did the play by play on channel 11.
Lastly there was the annual parades and specifically
the 1964 one honoring Eastchester's tricentennial.
Anyone else with little league recollections?
