The Black Cat (1934) is a Universal classic with rivals Karloff and Lugosi portraying rivals Poelzig and Werdegast (a pair of character names impossible to spell without looking them up first).

The two men face-off in a number of memorable scenes. In one conversation Poelzig challenges Werdegast by saying "Do you dare play chess with me....for her?"

One of the great films of all time, they don't make 'em like this anymore.

I'll go along with Tim and cast my vote for 1934s The Black Cat. Ranks high with me. Many great moments, good story, hard to beat art deco scenery, AND great music. Much of the music also in subsequent Flash Gordon serials, of which I am a big fan.

Of course there are also many great moments featuring Karloff and Lugosi separately. For most of us the first Lugosi scenes that come to mind usually involve Dracula, but he did some great work as Ygor as well.

One of my many favorite Lugosi moments is when Ygor cries out "Your father was Frankenstein, but your mother was the lightning!" in Ghost of Frankenstein (1942).

"The Black Cat": The scene where Lugosi confronts Karloff about his wife

"The Raven": The memorable moment when Lugosi slowly removes the bandages from the disfigured Karloff

"The Invisible Ray": Poisoned by radiation, Karloff comes to Lugosi for help; Lugosi presents Karloff with a 'Dear John' letter from his wife

"Son of Frankenstein": ALL of the great interplay between Lugosi's Ygor and Karloff's Monster; perhaps the best moment is when the creature finds his friend dead in the lab

"The Body Snatcher": The great sequence where Karloff "Burks" Lugosi

All you guys picked many of my best Karloff-Lugosi moments.

SON OF FRANKENSTEIN: I'll add the scene when Ygor instructs the monster to kill the villager who spit at him.

THE RAVEN: The scene where Bateman (Karloff) asks Dr. Vollin, (Lugosi), to change his face because he was ugly and did ugly things. And then Lugosi gets that gleaming look thinking about making Karloff hediously ugly.
