I've been working in loss prevention for over a year now. And although I haven't been involved in a "bad stop," a couple of my former co-workers were. One of our guys had spotted & called into the CCTV room two younger teenagers that were already looking very "suspicious." They were observed selecting two knives from the shelf, removing them from the packages & even got concealment. After keeping constant surveillance for several minutes the other guy in CCTV "briefly" lost the two as he was turing the camera. As a third former LP showed up for work that day, he was alerted of what was going on and told that they would be making a stop soon. After informing CCTV that he planned on stopping the two, CCTV tried to call the "stop" off saying that he had lost sight of the suspects and couldn't be sure if they still had the merchandise. Needless to say-they were stopped and brought back to the LP offices. On the way to the back they even turned their pockets inside out showing that they had nothing. After being questioned they did admit to taking the knives and even took the agents to where they had dumped them. Turns out that during that "brief" time when CCTV lost them, they got spooked and dropped what they had taken. In the end 2 of the 3 agents were written up and put on final notice for the incident.
