I recall a time when every shoplifter over the age of 13 and was to be handcuffed and verbally advised that they were not under arrest, but being detained for the police to be charged with shoplifting.

Then it went to only handcuff if you feel a potential threat

then it went to just leave the cuffs in the office incase you need them.

I havn't been on the floor in about 9 years now and I am now an investigator for a chain of small stripmall stores that dont have LP in the stores.

I remember when I started in LP 1982 - there where no cameras, vcrs, callup monitores, exception reports. Chasing a lifter for blocks.

I'd love to hear you younger guys / and gals too. what floorwalking is like these days from some of you younger guys/girls who are still fit enough to even catch a shoplifter if he decided to rum. Me, I'm too fat, old (43)and smoke a pack and a half a day. I would probably have a heartattack be the time I stepped off the sidewalk. But I can take a dishonest associate in the back room and get the truth out of them. I love that so much. Its all a mind game.
