Mac's apartment
Monday morning

There was a knock on Mac's door very early in the morning. Too early. Mac stumbled out of bed and yawned as she walked to the apartment door. Looking through the peephole she saw Harm.

«You're back,» she said as she opened the door.

«Sorry I didn't call last night. I didn't land until past midnight and I didn't want to wake you,» Harm said as he walked into the apartment. «I was going to call you later, but I couldn't wait to see you.»

Mac smiled. «I can sleep later.»

Harm leaned in and kissed her. «I wish I could stay, but I have court in an hour.»

«Dinner tonight?» Mac asked as the kiss ended.

«Wish I could, but I have mentor duty,» Harm said apologetic. Harm was mentoring a teenage boy, and he met with him once a week.

« It's okay. Being a mentor is important. Why don't you stop by after the meeting with Phil, and then you could stay the night,» Mac suggested.

«It's a date,» Harm said and kissed her. «See you tonight.»

«How did it go?» Mac asked as Harm turned to go.

«I have a new witness, and I now know exactly what happened the night Petty Officer Taylor was attacked,» Harm motioned to the door. «I really have to go, but I'll tell you everything tonight.»

Mac nodded and wished him good luck, before she closed the door. She smiled as she walked for the bedroom.

Later that night Mac stretched lazily and hugged Harm's body closer. It was past midnight, and they had spent hours making up for lost time. They both understood that making up for six years wouldn't be possible in one night, but that didn't mean that they wouldn't try.

“Sorry about the lamp,” Harm mumbled as he kissed her neck.

Mac laughed softly. “I can buy a new one.”

“Remind me again why we didn't do this years ago?” Harm said as he continued nibbling on her neck.

“It's mostly your fault,” Mac teased.

Harm laughed. “Let's not bring back bad memories.”

“Deal,” Mac agreed and pushed him a little away. “As much as I love what you are doing, I think I need mu beauty sleep.”

Harm kissed her sweetly. “That sounds like a plan.”

“Good night,” Mac said and snuggled into his arms.

“Good night,” Harm said as he relaxed into the pillow.

Dr. Kings office
The next day

“So what are you worried about?” Dr. King asked.

“My relationship with Harm has always been confusing. Throughout the years we've both had other relationships. I even almost got married at one point, but even then we have always danced around the idea of us. It's like we've committed and kept our options open.”

“And you think that's wrong?” Dr King asked.

“It's awful for the person we're supposed to be with. And that's always been what worries me about our relationship, just how self absorbed we get,” Mac said.

“But now there's no one else involved. It's just the two of you. Do you have second thoughts?” Dr King asked.

“That's just it. I have no second thoughts. I'm more or less ready to walk down the aisle,” Mac admitted.

“So what's the problem?” Dr King asked.

“I don't know,” Mac said and hesitated. “I guess I'm worried that he'll have second thoughts.”

“Have Harm shown any signs of that?” Dr King asked.

“No.” Mac felt silly. “You think I'm over thinking this?”

Dr King smiled. “I'm not here to think anything, I'm here to figure out what you are thinking.”

“I don't know what I'm thinking,” Mac said.

“Maybe you should ask Harm what he wants?2 Dr King suggested.

“I don't want to scare him. I'll let him set out the pace in this relationship. I don't want to scare him with my internal clock going off or the fact that I'm ready to settle down. We still have a year until...” Mac stopped. “That's silly. I guess.”

“What's silly?” Dr King asked.

“Our baby deal,” Mac said thoughtfully.

“You have a baby deal?” Dr King asked.

“Yeah, we made it four years ago. We've never talked about it afterward, so I'm not even sure if he remembers. I'm not going to bring it up. Our relationship is still new.” Mac smiled. “And I'm enjoying it.”

“It looks like you're healing quite well too. You look lovely, Colonel,” Dr King said. “When will you go back to duty?”

“In a few weeks if my Doctor says that I can. I'm feeling better every day, and I think I'm ready.”

The Admiral's office
Friday morning

The Admiral was pleased to see his chief of staff back at JAG. Mac looked so much better than she had after she came back from Afghanistan, and he hoped that she would be allowed back to work soon.

“In two weeks, sir,” Mac said after the Admiral had asked her when her Doctor would allow her back at work. “I'm allowed to start with half days, sir.”

“I'm happy to hear that, Mac,” the Admiral said and offered a smile. “I'll have Commander Barnes clear out his stuff from your office by then. He'll be with us for two more months, but I'll find an other office for him. You'll only be dealing with your chief of staff duties until you're back to full duty.”

“I was hoping you'd let me take on some cases, sir,” Mac said hopefully.

“I am, in a way. I need you to train one of our new lawyers. Lieutenant Kim Holt is fresh from law school and he needs someone to guide him in the beginning,” the Admiral said.

“Yes, sir,” Mac said.

“Now, about you and the Commander. I trust that you can keep your personal business private,” the Admiral said.

“Absolutely, sir,” Mac promised.

“Good. I will figure out a plan the day you come to me announcing your engagement,” the Admiral said with a clever smile.

Mac smiled too. “Yes, sir.”
