I was resident at Riverside (Werrington School) from 1968 to 1970. I would just like to say I never did see any at Werrington. The staff conducted them self’s in a professional manner under the head, Mr. Skermer. A great deal of effort was made by all the staff at that time to teach and guide the boys. Evan after I ran away one Saturday No one was ever caned to my knowledge.
I often visit Werrington and have done for many years, with my family, back in the day when it changed its name to Riverside I and my family was always made welcome and often stayed for tea on a Sat or Sun, it was strange to find girls there too, I have contacted the owner of the house, and asked if there was a possibility a blog site could be made for all the past residents, but was told in no uncertain words NO, this was due to all the sex scandal in the 80s.Werrington School is no more, But I would like to just take this opportunity to thanks and express my thanks to the staff at the time. ie, Mr Hilditch, Mr Sawyer, Mr Bean, Mr Glynn (army cadets)Mr and Mrs Dallas,Mr and Mrs Grindy. They made a positive difference to the lives of many boys. And that includes me.
