Alan, I like the ideas, apply for the job!
I think the ideas would work perfectly with a little creativity and imagination. If older individuals who like the 50's are listening in the daytime (retirees, etc.), play a few more 50's song during those hours; and vice versa. Have some cool shows (Sunday Night HOF, etc.) It would work!
It's definitely a tough task to program a station like WCBS-FM because it's tough to add "new" material. These artists aren't coming out with new material, so it's tough to keep things from not seeming too repetitive. It has to be a challenge. I like 80's music, since I grew up in the 80's (one of my favorite songs is Matthew Wilder's "Break My Stride") and although I wasn't a teenager in the 80's, I prefer them over the majority of music from the 90's (Grunge, Hip-Hop, Rap, etc.), but the 50's and doo-wop are still amongst my favorite! In my eyes, music has gone downhill.
I am really glad it's back and I don't see myself tuning away anytime soon, but the station definitely needs some tinkering. If it doesn't, I think I might grow tired of it eventually.
Anyway, apply for the job, and please consider me for an assistant!
