My main problem with WCBS-FM not playing 50s music is that it is the precursor and backbone of the all the music which came later. Without exception, all the British Invasion groups cited acts like The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, et al as their inspirations. I think it is remiss for WCBS not to include some music from the 50s and early 60s. And I also think it is not giving the younger folks enough credit to think that they wouldn't like to expand their musical horizons to hear music from before their time. Just because they didn't grow up then should not necessarily preclude that they wouldn't like some of that music. When I was a kid, I saw the movie "The Jolson Story" and it turned me into a life-long Al Jolson fan - and he was way before my time!!! I'm thrilled to have WCBS back but I would like to hear some 50s and early 60s thrown into the mix, too. I think Alan's idea of having some "specialty" shows from time to time is a good one. These could be done around famous musical anniversaries like February 3, 1959 and could feature the music of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper. Or a "beginning of summer" show which would feature alot of the late 50s and early 60s music. There's lots of potential here!!!
