I am one of those people. I listened to Jack starting 5 days after it kicked oldies off of WCBS, and I am enjoying it. I listen daily and can live without the DJs and other interruptions.

How old am I? 18. I know, kids MY age should be listening to "Z100". Yeah, RIGHT... I despise that station. I've gotten all of my friends and a few adults to make the switch to Jack. They've all had really great things to say about it. Mainly, the lack of interruption. The only main downside mentioned is that Jack plays a bit too much 80s rock. Otherwise, they like it.

Yes, my little group of Jack fans will not raise ratings and can't help the fact that they play tons of 80s rock. I know that. There ARE things that should be done to fix it, which does NOT involve bringing in personalities.

My mom likes Jack, and my dad doesn't. He was an avid fan of oldies on WCBS (my mom never listened to oldies). It seems that all of the oldies fans are just sore that Jack came along and killed what they loved. I don't see why they should anymore, though. WCBS is back on the 101.1 HD-2 signal. If you're such a devoted oldies fan, shell out the cash for a reciever. The only thing you'll be missing is your personalities. (Don't get me wrong, I don't hate oldies. In fact, I own 2 of the WCBS-FM Christmas CDs. I even listen to the online stream sometimes.)

Face it, though. Infinity is dedicated toward Jack FM on 101.1. They will NOT bring back oldies on the regular signal. Even if Jack is wasting itself in ratings, it will remain. Revoking it for oldies again would just make Infinity look more like fools.

If Jack can work in Seattle, LA, and Dallas (which are Infinity-owned), Nashville, Denver and others (which are independently owned), it can work in NY. All that needs to be done is to change the programming. NY is NOT a rocker city. They need to change it to be more rhythmic. Dare I say, make it more like WNEW, but still play rock and everything else to differentiate the two stations.

To go back to the original topic... I think that those people who listened to WCBS when it was oldies WILL dislike Jack for obvious reasons. Those who are new to WCBS might prefer Jack over other stations. It's not a given of course, but I've noticed this trend pretty clearly in people I've come across.
