Subject: Yeeehaaww I finally got my copy of UTN and have some queries and such for you all

Unlike a lot of you I reckon this was a great book. I have always loved the were side of things and (now no hitting) liked Vane's book better than Vals. Don't know why, I did really love both of them, but have always been a tad more partial to the weres.

I think the reason there hasn't been so much discussion about this one is that it read straight. There weren't so many tricksy little bits .... but there were a few. Now I haven't been trolling through the DH BBS lately so maybe these have already been discussed...soooooo
Savitar: Habitually dressed in a long dark blue flowing robe that reminds Dante of ancient Egyptian design. (by the way loved how he told everyone to "cop a squat" hehehe)
Also at the end when he gives them the mating mark he says "Everyone should have a chance to see their kids grow up" with a sad expression. Later he is thinking about why he is looking after Nick and thinks "ash is one of the few beings he would never deny".
So ladies what do you all think??

Actually I also reckon my favourite thing about this book was the fact that Mama Lo got some TEETH. It put a whole new spin on the sanctuary set up and is really a wonderful lead in to Fang and Aimee's book. Dev also got some major attitude and Remi!!!! what a snot. See here we were thinking in previous books about how wonderful all the bears were and now .... they're acting more like bears. Basically I reckon that the earlier books were wonderful for their humour mixed in with the action, but we are now moving into darker territory and this book seemed to reflect that change even more than Sins of the Night did. Personally I will miss some of the more overt humour (although there is still some there), but find it particularly intriguing to see where we go from here.

[> I'm horrible at history and trying to figure these characters out so I am no help on Savitar. I'm shocked that you liked Vane more then Val! I don't think I have a preference for DHs over weres, I just think their stories are better. There were a couple of DH books that weren't as strong either but I guess with her only writing a few were books and none of them being my favorites it seems like I prefer DH books. Honestly, I can't put my finger on why I didn't like Vane's story as much or Wren's. They mythology of the Dh drives me crazy because I'm so bad at it so I don't think the lack of it in the were books is why. I can't explain it. As for Mama Lo, I'm ok with the change in the whole family. Like I said before we were only looking at them from 1 perspective. I like seeing this side of them. -- Leiha, 12:10:32 01/20/06 Fri [1]

[> I'm so glad you finally got the book! I really liked UTN, but like you said it was a straight read. I'm hesitant to say anything about Savitar (except that he's mine! scroll down) We know so little about him that anything at this point would be rampant speculation. I wonder if he is wearing a formesta like Ash does, but Dante just doesn't know what to call it. I'm still chewing on the kids comment and the one regarding Ash. I really hope that some more of that comes out in the next book since it is also a Were Hunter book. I concur with you regarding Remi. That little brat may end up a rug if he doesn't watch it! I think I commented on it earlier- I think that there are some hidden bits in this book that will come to light when we read the next books. Sherri has done that with some of the others and I figure it's the same with this one. I'm prepared to have a "Duh, why didn't I see that earlier" moment. -- ~Sarah R.~, 14:58:49 01/20/06 Fri [1]

[> I thought Lo's behavior was shocking at first, but it does make sense if you remember that they are in fact, bears.I agree with you about it being a great lead into Fang & Aimee's book.Well-done by Sherri for that.I have considered that Savitar might be Ash's father,or at least a relation of some sort, but then I think twice about it and it seems WAAY too out there.I just keep thinking he's something to distract us from poking around Ash so much lately.*G* I think I might like Ravyn's story best,as far as Weres go-he's a Were and a Dark-Hunter.Sounds goooooddd! -- Boadicea, 16:31:17 01/20/06 Fri [1]
