There hasn't been a lot of discussion of UTN, usually when a DH book discussion about it and tons of comments on it. Why do you think this one hasn't been talked about that much?

[> I think it's b/c Were-hunter books seem less complex than DH books, even when SK's not tormenting us w/Ash tidbits. For me,UTN was exciting&intense, had a lot of action-but it's more a feeling of being "on the run" through the book, than getting in a down&dirty knife fight in an alley with some Daimons. Some of my fave scenes in DH books are the opening fights.I think I like them so much b/c they help me "see" the characters so much better.I liked UTN better than Night Play in many ways, but the time-travel was better,IMHO,in NP.Vane having to go to Dark-Age Britain was more interesting to me than Wren & Maggie going back 20 years or so.One thing I thought added good tension to the story was Mama Bear.More>>> -- Boadicea, 23:09:01 01/12/06 Thu [1]

I know a lot of people were/are shocked at how bitchy she was in UTN,such an about-face from previous books, but I think she had some great scenes that livened up the book.Even her scene with Aimee, the one where Aimee tells her she'll strike back if Mama hits her again, was a strong scene,IMHO.I was pi$$ed at Mama for it.but then I thought about bear behavior and it made sense to me
I'm thinking & hoping, plus crossing my fingers, that Fang & Aimee's book is going to be really good. And Dark Side of the Moon is looking like it might be another mind-blower like Seize the Night is.That's just the impression I get, from the hints on her site.I'm trying not to get too excited over it,b/c Sins did disappoint me a bit(I wanted a different ending & another a$$-kicker like Tabitha)but it's hard not to get anxious and greedy for it.*G*

[> [> I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head Bo because I ddi enjoy reading UTN but I didn't have much to say about it. I didn't really like the time travel because like I said earlier, it's hard to do well. It was interesting to see Mama Bear act like she did but I was cool with that because that's the interesting thing about books, when a character is in the background they seem so different then when they're in the forground and you see what they're really thinking and feeling (which is why the bad guy in one book makes such a great hero in the next one). -- Leiha, 09:54:37 01/13/06 Fri [1]

[> [> [> The time travel was okay for me. But I agree with Bo about the DH stories over WH so far. My favorites have been Dark-Hunters, but this is my favorite Were story so far. And, I too like it better than Sins of the Night. That was the least captivating for me so far. -- heatherl, 17:54:28 01/16/06 Mon [1]

[> [> The thing is time travel of only 20 years would be much trickier than into ancient history. I liked the way she worked around the issues of getting Aristotle to survive while not changing Wren's life. For Mama Lo, obviously she was pretty awful, which shocked me at first, but then I thought - what a good way to emphasize these are not humans. They're animals with very different drivers, emotions and behaviors and are not actually designed to play nice together. It really is setting the scene for Aimee and Fang. -- Beth, 23:37:48 01/13/06 Fri [1]

[> [> [> For the comparison with the DH books, I guess I don't read them in quite the same frame of mind as the werehunters, but I do like to see the way the worlds interact. Kind of interesting here to see Julian in a different context, and the introduction of Jean-Luc. And what about Vane NOT giving Bride any of his powers? My mundane thought is that Sheri hadn't thought of that possibility until she wanted to make Maggie transform into a tiger, but who knows? Maybe it's a future issue. -- Beth, 23:48:27 01/13/06 Fri [1]

[> What makes this book great for me is that I totally identify with so many characters. I love everything D H. Its so dark without being dorky, so goth and fantasy but in a totally real and tangible setting. And can I say that time travel is totally cool with me because I love Karen Marie Moning right after Sherri! Anyway, I loved it. -- chris, 12:17:23 01/13/06 Fri [1]

[> [> I'm probably one of KMM's biggest fans so I can do time travel in my books. I just think it's hard to do without messing up people's lives. I agree with Beth that maybe it's because she only went back 20 years it makes it hard to see how things don't change versus going back hundreds. I guess I just don't really like the time travel ability that certain were hunters have. -- Leiha, 16:59:33 01/14/06 Sat [1]

[> Over on the Dark Hunter bbs, a lot of the talk has been about Mama Peltier's actions. Lots of debate and lots of anger. People never lack passion over SK's books. -- Mary Stella, 17:38:00 01/13/06 Fri [1]

[> Your right, there isn't much discussion going on about this book. To me it seemed more distanced from the rest of the series. I really liked it, but it didn't cause the rampant speculation that so many of the other books have caused. I love the weres but I do think of them differently. I'm not too sure why. I am thinking that there must be some hidden things in this book that will seem really obvious when we read the next book. I wonder how many "hints" are in this one that we are not seeing. -- ~Sarah R.~, 09:32:18 01/14/06 Sat [1]

[> I guess I found myself feeling a vague sense of disappointment after I read it, I was really REALLY looking forward to reading about Wren, but something I can't put my finger on made it fall slightly flat for me. I don't know, should I do a re-read? I guess maybe I expected more, but I definately enjoyed Vane's story more. -- Aimee, 17:10:53 01/20/06 Fri [1]
