Subject: What did you think of Tory as a heroine?

I hadn't liked her much in her previous appearance as a child, but she grew on me here.

I've read some comments by people that they found her 'flatter' than they would've liked - I understand this, as I thought some of her aspects we were told about rather than demonstrated. She treasure hunts, she dives, she skydives - all we actually see her do is give a not-very-good lecture. But I will forgive that. Because what I like is the straightforward nature of her character - just what Ash needs. There are no silly misunderstandings or playing emotional games. Once she understands his horrors, she's behind him all the way.

Plus, she slaps down Artie so well. Go, Girl!

I might also mention that I like that Tory had only one brief spell of self-doubt. Once she believed in how Ash saw her as beautiful, they didn't keep harping on her as being plain.

Think she'll get the picture? I don't. She's too overconscious of what the other Olympians think. It overshadows her growth as a 'person'. But Tory? [> I don't feel like I know her.I was a little disappointed she didn't get more vicious with Artie.I know she can't be killed off,but I wanted a fight, to see Artie go through some pain & suffering that wouldn't even begin to touch the crap she put Ash through.I do like that she didn't play games with him,that was nice.But I think the original plan would've given us a chance to get to know her better.You know,the 'Ash's book will be two books' thing.That way we might have had a chance to absorb his past & soak it in.The second half of the book lost me a little,was sort of anti-climatic.I would like to go back & re-read my DH books,just to find Tory as a child.I didn't keep the Dream Hunter,so that's out.Plus,does anyone besides me remember her Grandpa or other family member calling her 'Triantyfyallo' or something like that???
