Hello,

I would just like to make a few small points regarding the issue of GBA and IGSA affiliation and recent postings.

I think I speak for all members of the BGSA when saying that we all appreciate what Chris does for the sport in this country and for organizing the national events at Traws.

As far as splitter groups go (I am presuming that this is in reference to the events organized for gravity bikers at Gurston). Ian has arranged that we may use the track at gurston along side the SSSprint events that Ding has organized. It should be added that this is really very kind of him as this eats into their own events hill time.

Our reasons for approaching Ding were two fold.

1) We get an opportunity to ride more. (Traws is along way for us to travel. Having said that if events clash, count me in for Traws)

2) We are trying to build a wider Gravity Bike Community. A lot of people who are completely or relatively new to gravity sports attend these events as well as more seasoned riders. When Ian and myself have attended these events in the past we have had a lot of interest in what we do and our bikes. Several people gained their first experience riding G-bikes last time we were there (including Pete Elliot). A couple of people were asking how to build a bike up and walked away muttering about building one.

We try to encourage people to build their own bikes and give it a go. Lets face it the more people in the country riding gravity bikes the better and how many of them might join the BGSA and come race at Traws (especially if the race points count on a international level) There was also a fair amount of interest in the recent events held at Traws from the luge boys. Asking what the hill is like etc. We also try and drum up interest and get people to attend the luge events.

It is not a splitter group (I feel comments of this nature seem oddly political coming from a committee that want to put the FUN back into racing) but is more of a Southern reconnaissance mission.

In regard to points for the gurston races. Let me clarify that we are not asking for points towards BGSA national series but towards the GBA World Series. I feel that including races at Gurston towards the national points would be unfair and wrong. The BGSA series should be run separately and on a level playing field, ensuring the results means something.

How does the affiliation to the IGSA negatively affect the BGSA? This is not an argumentative statement but a request for information. There may well be issues that we are unaware of that may well influence our, and other peoples, point of view. There was some talk of fees to be paid to the IGSA. What for and how much?

At the moment we are very much in favour of the IGSA affiliation. Racing on a Global series adds to the enjoyment of the sport as well as its appeal to new comers and potential sponsorship. Rules may be a problem (I’m thinking Disc brakes Etc) but can, as has been pointed out, be hammered out by a gentleman’s agreement between people competing in the BGSA events.

Yours hoping to be heard,

Graham & Ian
