Alongside the luges, Ian Round and Graham Whitehouse put in some good sub one minute runs on their gravity bikes as a possible precursor to the introduction of a concurrent Sssprint Gravity Bike Championship at future meetings.

Hey there all,

I'm way up in Åre in the Swedish mountains at the moment. Snowboarding in the mornings, snowskating in the afternoons and some longboarding at nights. The sun is shining so I wont even try to make it to Gurston for the 6th, but I sure WILL try to make the GBSA event on the 26-27th (since i start uni again on the 28th). If my riding won't scare all of you, my new £40 second-hand leather sure WILL!

Ah, right, me and cousin found a few cool hills around Åre aswell, so we'll see if we can pull an event together. Maybe a small one for this summer just to test the roads and stuff, and if the Roads are OK and we can get permission to use them we might try to put on an international event for the summer of 2004. Any tips on event organising? Anything special to think about?

Take care people, and don't let all that british rain put you off! ;)

Cheers,
anders

Hi Everyone.

After talking to Ding Boston this Sunday, his consent has been given to run a Gravity Bike race series along side the current Streetluge events. The next event Date is Sunday 6th April. I will be attending, as will Graham & Michael Whitehouse. I'll also have some spare bikes available for anyone who'd like a go.....

The gravity bike races will be run at a maximum of four riders per run, using Gravity Bike Association (GBA) rules. We will be self-governed and scrutineered (with final word from Ding). Realistically, as long as the bike & rider is safe (no sharp protrusions, wearing leathers, gloves, helmet etc), we'll let it run. We're currently waiting a verdict upon wether points from these races can be included for the GBA Championsip.....

From a logistical point of view, SSSPrint Streetlugeers have priority (cos they wos there first)so we will attempt to operate with no interference to their routine. With this in mind, I am trying to arrange a seperate van for getting us back to the top of the hill.
I'll post up other event dates as soon as I am able.

The hill was also run successfully by Stand-up riders Luke Wetherall & Tom Worsley, as you'll have seen from earlier posts. They're hoping to try and increase the Stand-up representation on the 6th, so any more riders would be very welcome, as would any in-line riders.

Nearly forgot the crucial bit...SSSPrint annual membership is £25, & event entry fee is £20. (ie. £45 first event, £20 thereafter. Ding also sometimes has safety kit available for hire, if you'd like to come along but don't have all the neccessary gear.

Look forward to seeing a few more bods on the hill....
Cheers, Ian.

Chris/John

Hi there, if they have been compiled yet do you think it would be possible to upload the BGSA rules for luge, bb, g-bike, etc. to your site? This way we we will know to what specification our equipment can be built to, and can have proper tech. inspections at the races.

Thanks a lot, looking foward to seeing you all soon

P.S. Any word on the location of the next race, Dalby, Traws, Gurston???

Hay all

Anders wanted to post this, but the forum was down and I think he is now abroad.

The video footage that was shot by Anders (+ others) has been put together into a sweet vid by his fantastic mates. The files are quite large so if you don't have a fast connection they will probably take quite a while to download. They can be found at www.osterling.net.

Enjoy

Hey there people...

Seems like Chalky is following me whereever i go. On sunday night and monday I could see that limping cripple in every mirror and shop-window... And when the mirror-man finally disapeared I gave the camcorder back to its right owner who looked at the footage - and guess who you could hear breathin in the mic for about 15mins? [Thinkin about makin a short video clip from the weekend to put online, so if anyone else caught anything rememerable on their camera it would be cool to put that in as-well].

Regarding "Chalky prize", we don't want no jackassing going - so for sane reasons i only think fully protected crashes (i.e. leathers n helmet) at a proper event should count. [if anyone objects - lets sort it out the way we do it in sweden; naked snow-wrestling in -30degrees]. Maybe also there should be a parameter on how much damage was made to the safety equipement in place... such as trashed haybales, leathers etc...

Anyway - cheers for the weekend! And If I manage to sort those flat-spots out in time i will try to make the gurston track standup on the 16th.

Cheers,

Author:

Date Posted: 21:16:22 02/12/03 Wed

Thanks Chris,

Hello People Chris Beard is spearheading the BGSA in the UK. As a GBA member Chris has done everything he can including financing events out of his own pocket to help our sport grow in the UK.

Any Company contacts people can get to Chris for the Usually Televised World Cup in the UK. We as Gravity Bikers have to take interest in the growth of our sport all over the world. If we all continue to support each other our sport will keep growing at this amazing rate. More riders are Poping up all the time and with them come the companies the work for and freinds with companies who would like a little exposure. I am sure Chris would not mind you making commision. Sponsorship Brokers make up to 15%. (Commision is dependent on sales quotas)

IF the packages are small enough you can sell them to print shops and Dry Cleaners who want to put the picture on there wall and be a part of somthing unique. If you all put together a good Sponsor pack with last years photo's and Demographics you could get anyone interested in Commission to sell an unlimited number of Bronze level Sponsorship and Silver and Gold Packages that are only limited to actuall add space.

You have plenty of time to sell Sponsorship at this amazing UK Action Sport Event. Companies who haven't allready figured out that Action Sports is were it's at soon will.

How many times does someone give you an event to sell and make a commishion on.

I would suggest you sell a low cost startup package that consists of.

$500.00 Bronze Package
Sponsor Gets.
1. A Certificate stating that said Company was a Sponsor of the Arviemore Scotland Televised BGSA/GBA World Cup Event.
Cost: $2.50

2. Photo of the Podiums with Autographed signatures from the event thanking the said Comany for Sponsoring the Event.
Cost: $15.00

3. Small Trophy with said Company Named as sponsor engraved on it.
Cost: $16.00
Cost: Shipping?

Costs: Reduce as you buy in Quanity

Silver Package 1000.00 all you see above
+ 1. Plus Banner Placement. (banner to be supplied by the said Company, or an additional cost of around $200.00 will apply for cost of Banner creation) banner size 10'x3'
+ 2. Additional Photo with riders racing past banner or lots of people around banner.

Gold Package: Negotiable for servises rendured Chris Beard would have to handle this sale personaly.

All sales must be pre approved by Chris Beard.

What does this add up to for the Broker.

Bronze. = Package cost= $50.00
Brokers Commission $67.50 per package (Quota for 15% Broker Fee=5 packages.

Silver. = Package cost= $70.00
Brokers Commission $139.50 per package (Quota for 15% Broker Fee=2 packages.

Gold.= unlimited potential.

You can make some bucks and Chris can keep this event alive. Please contact Chris for details on what needs to be done.

If Chris thinks this is a good Idea. Some People can make some bucks and we can have this race after all. What do all you guys think of this plan.

This is all Only a suggestion to Chris and the guys with BGSA. You must contact Chris Beard before you can sell anything for the BGSA. perhaps we can all learn how to make these events happen and getting the money is where it all starts. Guys like Chris can't spend his Kids College Fund so we all can race.LOL

Good Luck Chris I hope we can make something happen.

Hi All/Chris
I feel I must defend myself a little after your posting (Chris). One your first point I did not at any time say I would find funding for this years event (you know this Chris)I did however ask for your permission to put it forward to various broadcasters to see if they 'bite'. The company I have worked for has lost thousands (at my pleading) trying to promote the sport as I feel it is worth it.
In a time where luging has dropped from various gravity sports meetings I would have thought the sport would be grateful for some publicity. Yes I know the programmes transmitted where not on prime time but they did get aired and no one else was prepared to take the risk.
I can't take being at the end of a slagging all the time - yes we didn't do certain things but we DID do a lot.
I'm really sorry about Aviemore this year and would have went (TV or not) as I enjoy the sport and the people who take part.
Good luck with your new tv company - I found out who they are and it looks like they are doing a Jackass type gravity sport programme - comedy luge - I don't think so!
I'm really sorry if you feel let down but as I say at least I tried!
Good luck with everything, I would still love to be involved but it looks unlikely, given what has been said. I will probably see you all at Traws sometime.

First of the BGSA races will be held at Trawsfynddy on the weekend of the
28th of Feb (Friday) meet in the Pub for a few drinks and discuss some points for
the coming years racing.

Racing Sat and Sun 1st and 2nd March
If you interested contact my by e-mail or numbers below more details at www.gravitysports.co.uk/traws

Racing will be streetluge, buttboard, gravity bike and stand up if we have anyone brave enough.

As most of you know I have been unable to secure funds and sponsorship for this years Aviemore race
this is disappointing for me as it is for you.
I will still be looking for sponsorship for the race if I am able to secure funds for Aviemore( this may be later in the
year )I will put the race on.
If you had planed to come this year I would like to here from you to gauge what the attendance would have been.
I am also looking at moving it to the Isle Man TT course if this will get better sponsorship.
I await your comments

Thank you for your support.

Hi folks

Shame to hear about Avimore, was looking forward to that one.

Good news about the 6 events that are planned. Any provisinal venues and dates as yet? I often need shed loads of notice to book time off work, even penciled dates would help tons.

I do feel that a meeting is in order. Maybe avimore is out this year but what about next? Maybe 6 smaller events is the way to go for a while build up interest, gain more riders and members. Could I suggest that we meet towards the end of Feb (in a pub if you like) somewhere in the middlands maybe? Just to be kind to the southern lot.

Take care

It seems to me that if Aviemore is to stand any sort of chance this year, or in future, then if we get a substantially larger entry, then financially we must be on a better footing. One way would be to invite the Gravity Racers out there, and they are very high tech' racers, mainly made by manufacturers like Ricardo, for one other main event, Goodwood.
I've had a chat with one Gravity Racer being made for this event, and they would very like to race AFTER the Goodwood event, which this year is on July 13th to 15th. BUT say that perhaps other teams would still compete at Aviemore at the normal time, ie end of May, by using their 2002 Racers.
Either way, there are about 28 Racers out there, and £100 Entry Fee each would go a long way to making Aviemore financially viable.
When and where are we meeting?

Hi Dudes,

my stock gravity bike has sustained some minor cosmetic damage, but not as severe as Graham Whitehouse's face, which met the floor coming the other way at around 35mph on Sunday. Memmory loss, a visit to A&E & stitches was the net result. He's well on the mend, going MTB'ing tommorrow.....From my position as 'Chase car' driver, it seemed a speed wobble(starting at aroung 45mph) got the better of him.....

We were trying out a new hill near Shaftsbury (wearing only mountain bike pads & helmets, Doh!!!) Joel also stacked cos he hadn't tightened his trucks sufficiently since Traws. Fortunately he was wearing full gear of leathers and full face lid and didn't do himself any mischief. We've since concluded that we'll only run hills that you stand a fighting chance of crashing & not visiting A&E!! Oh yeah, and we'll always take the time to put our leathers and motorcycle helmets on....

Not sure what people feel about Chris's post this morning, but I for one am still keen to go forward with the BGSA. Keep talking to each other & I'm sure we can sort something out.....

Cheers, Ian.

For a start Aviemore wont be happening the companys that where approached have not got back to me and I dont wont to take the risk again this year as it has cost me alot in many areas.
I am sad and unhappy about this as this will be the end for the sport in this country i have done what i can for the past 6 years for the sport even simple things like having the parts for people to get into the sport, advice free tasters, even The Highland Wheels Extreme going out on channel 4 for the past 2 years has not got one sponsor interest.
I even feel like packing the whole sport in and walking away.
This maybe the wrong time to do this but it has been on my mind for a while.

I've been looking to get into the sport for a while now but I dont know how to go about building one. I've got all the tools that i would need but I wanna know like what to use for wheels and if it should be built out of aluminum or steel. I've got a welder and lots of experience welding and that sort of stuff. If anyone has the design or can just put me on the right track it would be much appreciated.

Hi all

I'm putting in a large order with the luge store as (a) it works out a little cheaper than getting the stuff over here, and (b) some of the stuff you can't actually get over here. Just wondering if anyone want's to add anything to the order and share on the shipping (split equal to the % of the order) as this will work out even cheaper. E-mail me in the next few days if you're interested as will be placing the order next week.

Hello Gravity Racers
After you see this video you may crossover to Gravity Bikes Go to http://www.GravityBike.com/Glendora003.html to see the video. News about Gravity Racing in Australia GO to the GravityBike.com Home page. G-Bikes are growing and crossover gravity riders are making it happen.

Every Streetluger who has raced a G-Bike has excelled to the top of the class. After you rip acrossed the road with two inch visibility at 60mph sitting on a G-Bike 2.5 feet off the ground is no problem. And you can't beat the fine tuned braking control on a G-Bike. I love Streetluge But I love Streetlugers on G-Bikes even better.

How is Gravity Racing going in the UK with Chris Beard as the BGSA President I am very confident that we will see the sport grow in the UK. GravityBike.com would like to continue to advertise the G-Bike events. and to promote the New BGSA You guys are all doing a great job working together and it hasn't gone unoticed even on this side of the world. Thanks Chris and John as will as every one else who is working so hard and putting your own $$ and time into it. Good Show.

First Happy New Year to everyone. BGSA accounts will be available at the end of the year and can be viewed at the AGM. The BGSA has its own bank account that memebership fees are paid into along with any others monies raised. No minutes are available for the Traws weekend as it was just informal discussions. There are some minutes from the meeting in October, available to members by request. The Committee needs to be up dated as some members now live abroad so we need some new members. The Committee at the moment consists of-
Chris Beard - Chairman
John Bates - Treasurer/Membership
Pete Elliot - Secretary ??

Between 5 and 7 committee members are required so if anyone feels upto the task put your nominations forward.(You must be a paid up member). We need to have one stand up committee member.

Racing into the NEW YEAR,

John and Chris.

Hi all !!

After a real hard year in many ways i hope and i wish that for all of you, 2003 will be the most succesful year in your lifes.

We all went true lots of descusions and broken friendships, what for ? Just because we couldn´t work out little details. I don´t know if this can be fixed in 2003 but its my biggest dream and wish i have.

As i promised this year at Hot Heels we will do it again from 6.-13.july 2003. Hot Heels is my personal favorite and as long as i´m able to do it, i will organize it.
Let´s forget for a second all association bull@@@@ and just think about how many got events we had in the past, there was DHX, Big Air, Rio, Hot Heels, Oklahoma, Bainbridge, X-Games, GG, Aviemore e.g., we had loads of good events in the PAST but our future will be much harder than we expect now ! At this moment some of the most prestigeous events allready history !

Some of our events are left ! Nobody knows at the moment if our sport (i´m thinking worldwide) can and will survive. Please don´t get me wrong , the sport will always survive on a underground level.

My biggest dream for all of us, is that some of our events will finds some sponsors and suvive somehow.

So therefore i wish all of you and i mean all of you a peaceful christmas and a great new year party.

I hope to see all of you back on tour next year with lots of fun, leave the anger we had this year behind and lets party again. As long as you want me to organize Hot Heels i will do it. I do it for you and will spent my holiday to give you a great party and smilin faces everywhere.

All the best for 2003 GERHARD Lanz from freezing austria !!!!

PS: if you need to email me please email. (Can´t be on the board for the next 4 weeks.)

Back in Sweden again, in my brothers uni-the capital town of blodes and models also known as Uppsala. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you all for a REALLY good weeknend in Trawsfynydd. Buttboardin is fun, but what made the weekend so great was that everybody was so nice and not stuck up there own arses (like most of the british snowboarders i have met). Especially chris for organizing the whole thing and helping me out with all my gear, chalky and derek for coming all the way just to freeze and chat in thoses mobilephone-wannabee things. And everyone else for letting be try their stuff and driving me all the way from exeter and bla bla bla.

Traws weekend is on dates are 14th Sat and 15th Sun Me and John will be there on Friday 13th night.
John and Doe have 2 cabins available for the weekend Friday to Sunday cost per cabin is £90 they will sleep between 4 to 6 people.
Streetluge, Buttboard,Gravitybike and Stand up this road is steep for the stand up riders but we should be able to use part of the road.
As most of you know this is a public road which is little used so we will block top and bottom.Hill fee will be between £10 & £15 for the van fuel and few more bales for the bridge.
If we get a chance we will try out the 70 mph road.

All are welcome and I will have some spare kit with me if anyone what's to give it a go.
I will be bring my old luge which is up for sale and a load of wheels, trucks, bearings, glove etc
Picture of the hill go to http://www.gravitysports.co.uk/traws.htm

For those waiting for the video of Aveimore this year in NTSC I should have them posted out to you next week.

Hey Dudes,
Kelvin Law has just e-mailed me with details of what looks like a possible new road, AND it's near Traws. Use the link

http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?X=285000&Y=230000&width=700&height=400&client=&gride=&gridn=&srec=0&coordsys=gb&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&scale=50000&out.x=3&out.y=9 to have a look at it.

I'll copy his description below:

At a place called Llywel (typical welsh name) theres a road leading up to a red dotted line. This is the path.
The path consists of two roads, one up and one down running along side with a high verge inbetween the roads. the run is about 1:20 mins long and we managed 50mph on our luges (we use normal skate boards, with very tight trucks) so the road would be even quicker. It starts off fairly steep then levels off which is annoying but then just drops, has loads of sweeping corners which are flat out at 50 but I dont know at higher speeds!! The bottom few coners (chicane and sweeping right at the end, with a wall enclosing a cemetary!!) are the quickest where 50 was obtained. This is the best street luge course we have ever been to and my description doesnt really give it justice. The road is normal width and made of very very smooth surface that is very grippy, we couldnt push the baords side ways on the road!! Plenty of grip even in the wet, which is our specialty!!!
If you could close both sides of the rouad off you could have people going down either side as the runs start and end at the same level but have varying gradients at different points!!

One other thing I might not have mentioned, on the map there is a red dotted line indicating the military zone!!!
This means that army trucks go up and down the road, but this is not very often at all and since the road is one way on either side you can tell when the road is clear. The army boys stopped to watch and congratulate us!!
This means you probably wont be able to block both sides of the road. Up near the top there's a place to put two cars on the middle verge which is very handy. Oh, watch out near the bottom as the farmer crosses the road get to his farm but we only saw him doing this once.

So there we are.........

Interesting, and must be worth a look next week end?

Cheers,

Derek Round

I have 4-5 foot aprox. of T6-8061 channel left over from building my luges, it is 4" wide and 1.5" high with 1/4" wall thickness. If anyone wants this I can bring it up to Traws, not enough to do a conventional luge, but would do a boomless probably.

Also anyone booking cabbins do you have room for me and Anders? We'll be coming up on the friday night.

STOP PRESS!!!!

Watch "FEAR FACTOR" on Sky1 - 8:00pm tonight.

You might recognise someone....

In case you are wondering - it is the episode that Richard Hodkinson and I filmed in South Africa, earlier this summer. I features us doing various death defying stunts for money. We also bunked off one day of filming, to go Streetluging with Leander Lacy (Top South African rider).

He took us to an epic mountain road in 'Friendchoek'. Best road I have ever ridden - High altitude, miles of swooping turns, hairpins, sunshine, spectacular scenery, babboons throwing rocks - and having to dodge the lumber trucks crawling downhill at 5mph. Unfortunately Sky 1 couldn't get a licence to film us luging, so we just rode for the hell of it anyway.

If you are still not interested - The Fear Factor episode does feature girls in bikinis too...

Tom.

P.S.You will probably enjoy a good laugh as I lose £14,000.

I have had a quick word with the guy who looks after Dalby Forest and he is keen for a race to be held there but on the proviso that it comes under the banner of the BGSA and that the association has minimum £5 million public liability insurance (Chris is looking into this), he's not keen on the idea of individual members having their own insurance.
He's happy for us to use the main drive into the forest and to open and close the road during a race event as long as we pick a sensible time of the year when traffic is at a minimum.
The impression i got is that he's not so happy for the forest roads to be used at any other times unless prior arrangement has been made and so in order that we don't jeopardise any possible future race it might be a good idea to avoid running in the forest unless the commission are aware of your presence.

STOLEN!!!!! STOLEN!!! STOLEN!!! STOLEN!!! STOLEN!!!

Bad news - Last weekend the lockup garage where Ding & I keep all the club luges was broken into. They pinched a couple of luges, leathers, helmets etc... most of which has now been recovered (Found dumped nearby).

However - we are still missing perhaps the most valuable items, two cases FULL of trucks. We are missing a number of BRAND NEW Z-Roller trucks, and a number of new Randal Luge trucks - bearings, wheels (Labedas), tools etc.

Obviously this is a lot of expensive kit (Especially the Randals) but, it it relatively worthless unless you are into Streetluge and know how to use it.

So, If any of you are approached by some spotty punk kids trying to shift a lot of Luge hardware - take their detais - and contact me or Ding. We will then personally hunt them down and break their legs.

P.S. By the way - how did the meeting go at the weekend? Sorry I had to bum out at the last minute, but I gave it a good bash!

Hiya guys,

First of all, huge congratulations to Pete and Jerry! Very well done indeed!

Second, the whole BGSA thing this weekend is that only for the people in the BGSA board already (if there is a board yet?) or is it for any one interested in BGSA? In the latter case, I don't really have a clue as to where Holmfirth is so if anyone could give me a clue it would be nice. I would like to come to the meeting, but i'm stuck in the southwest, so if it's up in the north I prb wont be able to.

Cheers,

Well done to the Brits who made history at the recent Bainbridge world cup race in Ohio U.S.A.

PETE ELIOT (GBR) - STREETLUGE WORLD CHAMPION

JERRY GILDER (GBR) - BUTTBOARD WORLD CHAMPION

This is an amazing achievement for Jerry and Pete, who have both raced with rugged determination over the years to achieve this win.

It can be said of Pete, that he often got lost - but he refused to lose!

Considering how little practice they both get, (due mainly to the lack of U.K. races) to beat the Americans at their own game is an excellent result.

I hope that having two British World Champions can add some extra momentum to the B.G.S.A. / Aviemore publicity drive.

See you all at the weekend.

New Hampshire rules and the hospitality from Race organizer Tim Cayer and the entire Cayer Family was unprecedented. Our gear never arrived and Immediately when we got to the course phone calls where made to guys like Eric who showed up to the event with a full suspension G-Bike on the spot. Tim had also built bikes on the spot for us to ride. Leathers where found helmets fitted and we had the choice of bikes to ride. I was thrilled with every thing GSI did to make it an event to remember. Food was served Hot there was more Gatorade than any one could drink and the race was run smooth and efficient. We got more practice runs than I can count. And my beautifully engraved Trophy arrived at my house three days after the event. Wow you guys missed it. And the entire trip cost me less than $600.00 for the entire trip and that includes the beautiful hip length Wilson's leather jacket I bought out there for $25.00 if you can believe that price. The Country was amazing. And the people couldn't have been nicer.
Thanks Tim Neil Bob Mackenzie Tom Toms Mom, Eric and every one else at the event. For taking such good care of us from the West.

And then a week later Bainbridge Ohio which cost even less to go to than New Hampshire which cost me less than $500.00 for Plane Hotel Rental Car Food and Race Fee's. I can't vacation in California where I live for less than that.

Thanks F-G Racing and every one at the Bainbrige Grand Prix

For those who missed it. You should be crying right now, because you missed out on a really fun event. Guys where entering turn two at 48mph and braking it down to 23mph to make the tight steep corner. 60 Meters later they where back up to 50mph hitting top speeds in excess of 65mph before tapping the skids to ripe through the turn five chicane, like there where jet engines strapped to there luges.

The local crowd was thrilled and lined many parts of the course.

The Red Bull was overflowing. The Hot-Dogs where hot on the Grill, and the Sun was bright for a fairly dry road on race day.

Heck we even had the boy scouts out as course workers for the entire event.

I haven't even mentioned how drop dead gorgeous that part of the country is. And the people, wow. We show up to the restaurant Five minutes before closing, and they took care of us like it was still the middle of dinnertime.

I want to thank Mrs McLemore, Fermin Rodriguez, Marcus, Bob, Rusty, Wild Bill, Eric, Erika the Photo Journalist, Blue Smoke, Neil, Kevin Hahn, All the inliners, Fritz, Andy for the course walk, every one in Bainbridge, Crash Pads Red Bull Dietz & Watson, and all the rest of you who showed just so I could have a good time.

See you all next year.

There is nothing wrong with the board i am just selling it for my own personal reasons. Paid $1000.00 for it was thinking $800.00 is a fair price or best offer. In one week I leave to start setting up the course. In a week and two days, racers from all over the world will embark on the small community of Bainbridge Ohio for what will be one of the best races of the year. We have entries from luge, buttboard, skateboard, inline and gravity bike. I am talking preregistered entries.

Every thing is in place and all are invited. Early registration ended today to allow for mail time. When registering at the race remember to bring cash.

Come early on Friday the 18th to get in as much practice as you can handle. The action will begin at about 10am. We will qualify on Saturday and race on Sunday.

Thanks to all that have sent in their registration early. This really helps with the planning of the event.

Don't forget your number plates. Your number corresponds with your year-end ranking in 2001. I will be emailing all of the preregisterd racers a confirmation of their number. Numbers will be assigned for those racing IGSA for their first year.

We are looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Thank you to all of the racers that are supporting F-6 Racing Events. The Bainbridge and Talimena Events are both scheduled already for 2003. The dates will be announced at this years race.

SEE YOU ALL IN BAINBRIDGE

Hi Everyone,

I've booked one end of the Fleece Inn in Holme village (approx. 3 miles South of Holmfirth) on Sunday 27th October. They serve food 12-3 so could people aim to arrive for 1 o'clock, so we can order food at about 2 o'clock. A TV is available and I shall attempt to provide a VCR so we can watch the full length Aviemore tape, courtesy of Chris Beard. I've been asked by the Landlady to contact her a few days before to give an indication of expected numbers, so can those who are definitely attending let me know. Of course, anyone who can make it, even at short notice, would be very welcome. A few extra bodies won't muck things up I'm sure.
At this point, we don't have an agenda, so any suggestions would be welcomed. Basically, if everyone gets there for 1 o'clock, those who don't know each other can have a chat & those that do can rip the mick out of each other.....then we'll eat, then having had a bit of discussion over our meal, perhaps a formal meeting would be appropriate? Minutes being taken and all that sort of thing? Anyway, we'll see what everyone thinks on the day..........

Hope this arrangement is ok for everyone,

Regards,

Ian.

I had a good look at two possible roads today, near Caistor in North Lincolnshire. Both are marked on the map, but are non "B" roads with not too much traffic.

1) Take the A46 north from Market Rasen for about 2 miles, then turn right for Claxby. Take the right turn as you enter the village of Claxby, and this then climbs to the top of the Wolds. The climb after the end of the village to the top is wide, steep, has several challenging curves, and fast sections, and is 0.5mile to the top. Disadvantages include a couple of house drives onto the road and a rarely used side road, all of which would need to be marshalled.

2) At the top, bear left and follow the road until it starts to drop into Nettleton (the villade is just off the A46, a bit further north), after about 2miles. This drop is smooth, fairly wide, steep and has some challenging fast corners and straight bits. It's about 0.5mile long. Disadvantages include an official car park part of the way down, on the left, and a footpath that joins at one point. The start is nice and open, but the finish is a little bit tight, at just above the village of Nettleton. This course passes NO entrance drives at all!

Final Comment(s): Good radio communications would be vital on both these courses as the finish is not visible at the start. Perhaps we could do the two courses in one day, as they are only few minutes drive from each other?

Others now are needed to survey these course proposals, and report back.

And the rest of you out there....Keep looking!

Hi everyone

I'm probably gonna make myself very unpopular by saying this, but it is JUST a suggestion.

I know Avimore is a great course, long, challanging, etc, but what if the BGSA dosn't run it next year. To be honest it's not supprising that sponsors don't want to get involved, the event is out in the middle of nowhere, very few spectators, and a 7am TV slot. Promotion and sponsorship wise it would be a far better to locate the race in a location that is easily reached by spectators, will attract the attention of local media, thus providing a far better prospect for sponsorship.

In the cabbin at Traws Chalky and Andy suggested a street race in Sheffield, down a less major road. Somewhere couldn't help but attract attention and would be very easy for spectators to get to, think Streets of San Fransisco (possibly without the jumps). A location like this would be far more attractive to sponsors.

I know the course probably wouldn't be as long or good for the riders as Avimore, but as an "event" may be it would quite likley be better. Lets face it a sponsor does not want to invest in something that will only be seen by a handfull of people, in a city there are not only far more spectators, but also far more potential sponsors. It would be great to do both this and Avimore, but obviously funds and time couldn't possibly allow for this, I'm just saying that an event that will attract more attention could only be good for the BGSA.

Just a suggestion, what are your views?

To those buying boards off Chalky:

Lets face it £250 is begger all to pay for those boards Chalks is making. If everyone agrees I recon all of us (and thos who order in the future) should pay £300, £50 of which can be donated to the BGSA. At the moment there are 6 orders I believe, that would inject £300 into the BGSA kitty, a good sum for needed equipment. Why not just give £50 direct, I know it dosn't make much sence, but for me I'll feel I've already got something for my money rather than waiting for the funds to be used in the future.

JAMIE, NEIL, MARK, TOM, and TODD whadda ya recon? And anyone else, these boards are great, beginners out there who don't know how to make a board, £300 is a bargin for this quality ride, if experienced guys are buying them you know they are good.

Firstly, has anyone seen Ians motorcycle boots, last heard of at Traws a few weeks ago? Any sightings gratefully received.
Secondly, and of perhaps greater importance, is a possible new road Ian and I have found, at Lofthouse, above Pateley Bridge, which is just above Harrogate. It runs about two miles up to Scar House Reservoir, is smooth, has one nice big corner, and several interesting ess bends. It appears to be a public accessible road, owned by Yorkshire Water, but has two problems for us. The first is a cattle grid, which is on the fastest part of the course (bridgeable, I'm sure), but the second problem is it may just not be steep enough! I ran down it on my motorcycle, which may not be very free running, and reached 40mph at the fastest part, but by the end, after two miles, I was down to 20mph.
As soon as we can, Ian and I will run a Gravity Bike down the course, to see how things really perform.
In the meantime, would someone else like to survey the proposed road, and report back?
Everyone else, do keep looking.
Cheers.

Please don`t laugh at me, but I need to ask this now:
What the hell is a "hill climb course" ??? When I read about this months ago the first time I thought it is a road that leads to a certain hill or mountain where you can climb ? But it isn`t, right ;-)
It probably is a stupid question but do they race up hill with cars ???

Ok, I have Good News and Bad News about Bainbridge. First the Bad News!

The Bad News is we all still have to wait another twenty-five days before we get to race Jester Hill!

The Good News is everything is going along as scheduled. The county has prepared the road. The World Cup medals have been ordered. The hay has been ordered. Red Bull will be there to supply the racers with plenty of energy drink! The ambulance service has been confirmed. Dietz & Watson will be providing lunches for the racers and workers. Kryptonics will provide wheels for the podium and other prizes. Terminator will provide bearings for the podium. Landluge.com will show support with prizes. Abec 11 will provide product for the podium and the list continues to grow!

I want to thank all the racers that have supported and continue to support F-6 Racing events. With a month before the race we have received more entry forms than our previous events. This is truly going to be a world class World Cup weekend. The field of racers will be plentiful from all over the world. We have already received several confirmations from international racers.

INTERNATIONAL RACERS remember that as all F-6 Racing events, If you register via email, you can pay your entry fee at the event without a late fee. This is only for international racers to help with the hassle of sending money overseas.

I have had reports that airfare to Columbus is very reasonable. Los Angeles area to Columbus for only $211. Remember to book your rooms ASAP. There is a large festival in Bainbridge and the hotels will get full.

GET READY/LET'S RACE!
See you in Bainbridge

I'm new to the scene but am interested in Gravity Bikes and possibly buttboarding, am I too old at nearly 40???.

I hillclimb and sprint and a couple of other courses spring to mind that may be suitable:

Loton Park nr Shrewsbury, owned by Sir Micheal Leighton, used for hillclims, got good tarmac and I'm sure part of the course could be used, 3 or 4 interesting corners and reasonable run offs.

Shelsley Walsh near Worcester, again a Hillclimb venue, very steep with 2 90degree bends (bottom s & top S) only a few yards apart, not a huge amount of run off, but not a huge amount of Arnco like at Prescott.

You may have already looked at these but I thought I would mention them anyway.

Are you guys finished for 2002 or is there another event or Practice I could come and see before I build my gravity bike

hope your getting there. 3mths and youll feel like a disabled pervert( shit sorry person) was it not the best bed in the ward as much morphine and salty water as your veins can take ,the bloke in the next bed constantly draining the bag attached to the large weeping sore on his knee ,the constant pitter patter of 15st nurses ah what bliss it was.the good news is that the next step you take will really hurt and that cracking sound as you place your dodgy foot on the floor will put you into psycological turmoil.
good luck southener let me know how your getting on kiss kiss your northern crippled cousin

Hi all,

Thanks to you all for all the kind sentiments concerning my crash and its consequences.

To confirm:

I have broken my leg – I’ve snapped the end off my tibia where it meets the ankle, I stayed two nights in Bangor hospital while they screwed it all back together. I’ll be out of action for the next six weeks, but rest assured, I will be back on the road with my new ‘bionic ankle’ as soon as possible.

However – the real purpose of this post is to apologise to all those at Traws for me making such a stupid mistake. I’ve been racing for four years now, and should know better than to crash the way I did. It just goes to show, if you take your eyes off the road for even a second – you have to pay the consequences.

Streetluge receives a lot of bad press for it’s accidents and injuries – however, I want it to be known that this most recent injury was a result of my own poor judgement, and is not representative of the sport as a whole.

Streetluge is getting safer all the time – but you still have to stay awake!

Thanks to everybody who was at Traws for digging me out and getting me to hospital, thanks to Chris and John for taking care of my luge – and a huge thanks to Miriam for everything she does for me.

I won’t be at this email address until I’m back at work, so please send any further correspondence to: mrtom1@hotmail.com. In the meantime, I can be reached on the usual numbers:

Mobile : 07770 652546
Home : 01865 725376

Oh and one last thing – GET YOURSELF INSURED! In a freak moment of sensibility three months ago, I took out a streetluge insurance policy with ‘sportscoverdirect’. It costs about £60 for the annual ‘Super Gold’ world-wide cover, and when something like this happens – it is worth every penny.

See you all soon,

Ride hard – stay safe.

Tom Worsley

P.S. Yes it is true – I really was in the same hospital bed as Chalky……………it still stinks!

BAINBRIDGE IS READY FOR THE RACERS!!!!
ARE THE RACERS READY FOR BAINBRIDGE???

The County Engineer has his road crews hard at work making certain that Jester hill is ready for the best gravity racers in the world. Everyone that has been there remembers the technical challenge of turn two along with its accelerating exit. You will quickly remember the feeling that you get while racing through the curves down Jester hill, always having to trust that the road will be under you beyond the next rise. There isn't any one that can forget the chicane towards the bottom. I think the only person that has taken it brakeless is Mason when he was on his way to a gold medal after crashing in turn two. This is a truly exciting racecourse and an incredible atmosphere for the World Cup event scheduled for October 18-20. This is the third year for the Bainbridge Grand Prix and the entire county is buzzing with excitement!
The same weekend, the town of Bainbridge is holding the Fall Festival of Leaves. This festival brings in about 250,000 people. There will be plenty of spectators to showcase your gravity racing skills in front of.

So Get Ready For A Great Weekend Of Racing, Here Are The Details.

The race is scheduled for October 18th, 19th and 20th. There will be plenty of time on the hill this year. Practice will be all day on Friday. There will be one practice run on Saturday with qualifying immediately following. Sunday is race day!

We were able to secure 30 rooms at the Holiday Inn Express for the same price as last year. This is a $90 room for $69! It includes a deluxe continental breakfast and an indoor pool. Tell them that you are entering the Bainbridge Grand Prix to get the discounted rate. Their phone is 740-779-2424.

You can fly into Columbus Ohio,(one hour north of the hotel) Dayton Ohio(an hour and a half northwest of the hotel) or Cincinnati Ohio(an hour west of the racecourse and an hour and a half from the hotel). I think most people fly into Columbus.

We are talking with Red Bull and a food distributor to cater food for the athletes and workers. Stay tuned to the message boards and we will keep you in the loop on all of the details.

You can get entry info by emailing me. IGSA has all the details on their site, the link is below. We will have it on f6racing.com soon.

See you all in Bainbridge!

What a mint weekend

Plenty of Racing, beer, food and skinny dipping

But the best thing was the lame attempts by scousers to take the piss out of yorkshire folk.

Our Wippets will rip your shellsuits to bit's next time boys!

Hi dudes,

Thanks for a top weekend. It was good fun riding with you all and taking Joel out at every opportunity. (How much did you say you'd pay me?). Irish Tom's hand wasn't broken after all. (Tod's Marylin said so and she's a physio!).

I've been told I missed the skinny dipping in the river, but seeing everyone get changed into their leathers I think that's probably a good thing. I could have done with washing the grass out of my pants though after those off-roading sessions.

Chris/John, mail me your address and I'll send my BGSA dosh to you.

'Til next time......

MC.
