Subject: An Alternative?

Hi everyone

I'm probably gonna make myself very unpopular by saying this, but it is JUST a suggestion.

I know Avimore is a great course, long, challanging, etc, but what if the BGSA dosn't run it next year. To be honest it's not supprising that sponsors don't want to get involved, the event is out in the middle of nowhere, very few spectators, and a 7am TV slot. Promotion and sponsorship wise it would be a far better to locate the race in a location that is easily reached by spectators, will attract the attention of local media, thus providing a far better prospect for sponsorship.

In the cabbin at Traws Chalky and Andy suggested a street race in Sheffield, down a less major road. Somewhere couldn't help but attract attention and would be very easy for spectators to get to, think Streets of San Fransisco (possibly without the jumps). A location like this would be far more attractive to sponsors.

I know the course probably wouldn't be as long or good for the riders as Avimore, but as an "event" may be it would quite likley be better. Lets face it a sponsor does not want to invest in something that will only be seen by a handfull of people, in a city there are not only far more spectators, but also far more potential sponsors. It would be great to do both this and Avimore, but obviously funds and time couldn't possibly allow for this, I'm just saying that an event that will attract more attention could only be good for the BGSA.

Just a suggestion, what are your views?

Joel
