Subject: The IGSA, GBA and us

Author:
Graham & Ian (GBA & BGSA Members)
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 04:37:33 03/31/03 Mon

Hello,

I would just like to make a few small points regarding the issue of GBA and IGSA affiliation and recent postings.

I think I speak for all members of the BGSA when saying that we all appreciate what Chris does for the sport in this country and for organizing the national events at Traws.

As far as splitter groups go (I am presuming that this is in reference to the events organized for gravity bikers at Gurston). Ian has arranged that we may use the track at gurston along side the SSSprint events that Ding has organized. It should be added that this is really very kind of him as this eats into their own events hill time.

Our reasons for approaching Ding were two fold.

1) We get an opportunity to ride more. (Traws is along way for us to travel. Having said that if events clash, count me in for Traws)

2) We are trying to build a wider Gravity Bike Community. A lot of people who are completely or relatively new to gravity sports attend these events as well as more seasoned riders. When Ian and myself have attended these events in the past we have had a lot of interest in what we do and our bikes. Several people gained their first experience riding G-bikes last time we were there (including Pete Elliot). A couple of people were asking how to build a bike up and walked away muttering about building one.

We try to encourage people to build their own bikes and give it a go. Lets face it the more people in the country riding gravity bikes the better and how many of them might join the BGSA and come race at Traws (especially if the race points count on a international level) There was also a fair amount of interest in the recent events held at Traws from the luge boys. Asking what the hill is like etc. We also try and drum up interest and get people to attend the luge events.

It is not a splitter group (I feel comments of this nature seem oddly political coming from a committee that want to put the FUN back into racing) but is more of a Southern reconnaissance mission.

In regard to points for the gurston races. Let me clarify that we are not asking for points towards BGSA national series but towards the GBA World Series. I feel that including races at Gurston towards the national points would be unfair and wrong. The BGSA series should be run separately and on a level playing field, ensuring the results means something.

How does the affiliation to the IGSA negatively affect the BGSA? This is not an argumentative statement but a request for information. There may well be issues that we are unaware of that may well influence our, and other peoples, point of view. There was some talk of fees to be paid to the IGSA. What for and how much?

At the moment we are very much in favour of the IGSA affiliation. Racing on a Global series adds to the enjoyment of the sport as well as its appeal to new comers and potential sponsorship. Rules may be a problem (I’m thinking Disc brakes Etc) but can, as has been pointed out, be hammered out by a gentleman’s agreement between people competing in the BGSA events.

Yours hoping to be heard,

Graham & Ian

*** Z-ROLLER TRUCKS - WANTED !!! ***

Are there any U.K. Streetluge riders out there who started out riding on Z-Roller trucks, but have since upgraded to Randalls?

Do you still have the old Z-Rollers knocking around your house, currently unused?

Well, if you don't want them any more we will buy them back off you. (For a reasonable price). We need some spares to keep the Sssprint club "Rent-A-Luges" on the road.

So - if you have a pair you want to sell (providing they are in good condition), drop me a line and we'll do business. Let's face it, we could all do with a little extra beer money...

See you on the hill...

I am preparing to show the prototype of a UK built Streeluge at the NASS04 @ Royal Bath & West showground w/e 16/17/18th July.

Anyone interested in buying their OWN purpose build sled can contact me via Email (Black8art@aol.com)

Prices have not been fixed yet but the more people I have orders from, the cheaper it will be! I HOPE they will start at £250.00 and top out at £300.00 depending on specs.

Give me your feedback ASAP, and I can incorporate any good ideas into further development!

The IGSA is pleased to announce that they have formed an alliance with Northwest Airlines and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to offer discounted airfares for athletes competing at upcoming IGSA sanctioned events.

Beginning with the San Francisco Gravity Festival, IGSA competitors will receive a special discount off applicable World Business Class, Normal Economy, Special Economy, APEX and Super APEX fares. A discount will also be offered off any promotional or 'short term' sale fares. These discounts are valid for Northwest/KLM flights originating in North America, Europe, Africa and Asia.

North American participants should call Northwest/KLM at 1-800-328-1111 during business hours. Competitors from Europe/Africa/Asia may call their local Northwest/KLM reservations office in their country of origin. All callers must refer to the World File "RBAPK" to obtain information or reserve seats for this program.

Competitors travelling to the San Francisco Gravity Festival will want to book their flights into either San Francisco International Airport (SFO) or San Jose International Airport (SJC). Competitors travelling to the Ohio World Cup should book their flights into Port Columbus International Airport (CMH).

Complete information and details will be posted at www.gravity-sports.com shortly.

Information on the upcoming San Francisco Gravity Festival and the Ohio World Cup are now available on the IGSA website (www.gravity-sports.com).

The San Francisco Gravity Festival will serve as the official IGSA United States National Championships for the second year in a row. Promoter Robert Wurgaft is hard at work to make this years Gravity Festival the best ever. The three day event will be held September 24-26.

On October 15-17 Bainbridge, Ohio will host the Ohio World Cup. This will be the fourth of five IGSA World Cups in 2004. Earlier this year promoter David Dean held a national event on the same road. The race was such a resounding success that we are returning with a World Cup. The road department is currently repaving the entire road so expect the racing to be fast and fierce.

The IGSA would like to thank Robert Wurgaft and David Dean for their continued support of gravity sports and the IGSA World Cup Series.

MAKE ?5,000 WITH JUST ?3 AND 6 STAMPS!! YES....IT REALLY WORKS AND IS TOTALLY
: LEGAL! READ ON... YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!!

: MAKE QUICK AND EASY MONEY - THIS ACTUALLY WORKS!
: I READ THIS ARTICLE ON A MESSAGE BOARD AND THOUGHT I WOULD GIVE IT A GO AND WHILST I DIDN?T MAKE MY MILLIONS, I DID MAKE ?4000 AND I AM STILL GETTING MONEY IN THE POST. THE ORIGINAL ARTICLE IS BELOW -

: Make ?500 - ?5,000 or more, with just ?3 and 6 stamps. Earn money honest and fairly. HOW TO TURN ?3 INTO ?5,000!!! OR MORE!!! IT REALLY WORKS.
: I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. A little while back, I was browsing message boards, just like you are now, and came across an article similar to this that said you could make thousands of pounds within weeks with only an initial investment of ?3!!
: So I thought, "Yeah right, this must be a scam", but like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway, it said that you have to send 50p to each of the 6 names and addresses stated in the article. You then place your own name and address in the bottom of the list at No6, and post the article in as many newsgroups and message boards as you can. (There are thousands) No catch, that was it. So after thinking it over, and talking to few people first, I thought about
: trying it. I figured "what have I got to lose except 6 stamps and 3 quid right?? Then I invested the measly ?3.
: Well guess what?

: Within 7 days, I started getting money in the post! I was shocked! I figured it would end soon; but the money just kept coming in. In my first week, I made about ?30. By the end of the second week I had made a total of over ?900. In the third week I had over ?3,000 and was still growing.

: This is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just over ?15,000 and it's still coming in rapidly. It's certainly worth ?3 and 6 stamps!

: Let me tell you how this works and most importantly, why it works. It's really simple and easy.

: I promise you that if you follow the directions exactly, that you will start making more money than you thought possible by doing something so easy!

: Suggestion: Read this entire message carefully. (Print it out or copy and paste it into notepad or a blank email or similar) Follow the simple directions and watch the money come in!

: IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off; it is not indecent; it is not illegal; and it is no risk - AND it really works. If all of the following instructions are adhered to, you will receive extraordinary dividends.

: PLEASE NOTE: Please follow these directions Exactly, and ?10,000 or more can be yours in 20 to 60 days. This program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants. Please continue its success by carefully adhering to the instructions.

: *Here Are The 4 Easy Steps To Success - TRY IT.............GO ON, WHAT HAVE YOU GOT TO LOSE EXCEPT ?3.

: STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the following on each piece of paper: "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST" and then write your name and address below that.

: Now get 6 UK 50p coins and tape ONE to EACH of the 6 pieces of paper and fold the piece of paper in half so the coin will not break through the envelope. Next, place one of the pieces of paper in each of the 6 envelopes and seal them. (make sure you put a stamp on each envelope - a 2nd class stamp will be fine if you want to keep your costs even lower)

: You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each with a piece of paper inside saying "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST", your name and address, and a 50p coin. What you are doing is creating a service. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! You are requesting a legitimate service and you are paying for it. (very little!) Like most of us I was a little skeptical and a little worried about the legal aspects of it all. So I checked it out with the UK Post Office and they confirmed that it is indeed legal. If
you have any worries, refer to Title18 Sec. 1302 & 1341 of the Postal lottery laws. It is fantastically - completely legal!

: Now send your 6 envelopes to the addresses below:

: No1) O.Burns, 12 Staveley Road, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, LE13 0LN
: No2) J.Mackenzie, 98 Shillinghill, Alness, Ross-shire, IV17 0TA
: No3) S.Wood, 70 Orford Avenue,Warrington.Cheshire WA2 7QJ
: No4) E. Chapman, 2 Rocklands Road, Shropham, Norfolk, NR17 1DU
: No5) R.J.TIPPING, 46 Merlin Crescent, Branston, Burton on Trent. Staffs. DE14 3JF
: No6) B.Coleman, 9 Whitehill Street, Dennistoun, Glasgow, G31 2LH

: *IMPORTANT: You MUST do this step or these people will not be able to add your name to their mailing lists as spaces become available on them and you will lose out on a lot of money - and we dont want that! Also, when you do Step No3, when people start sending money in, the above 6 will KNOW that you didn't adhere to the rules as they never got their 50p from you and will take you off the list! These are the RULES.
: *PLEASE REMEMBER that this program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants and by their carefully adhering to the directions. Look at it this way - If you follow the rules completely, the program will continue and therefore so will your money! *

: STEP 2: Now take the number 1 name off the list that you see above and move the others up 1. (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc.) And add YOUR name and address at number 6 on the list.

: STEP 3: Change anything you need to, but try to keep this article as close to the original as possible. Now, post your amended article to as many newsgroups and message boards as you can (You should really try to aim for at least 200 which isn't as difficult as it sounds with the 'copy and paste' feature - more on this below) I think there are close to 34,000 groups. And remember, the more you post, the more money you make! **

: Keep a copy of these steps for yourself and, whenever you need money, you can use it again, and again.

: So, as each post is sent and the directions followed carefully, six members will be reimbursed for their participation as a List Developer with 50p
: pence each. Your name will move up the list geometrically so that when your name reaches the No1 position you will be receiving thousands of Pounds in CASH!!! What an opportunity for only ?3.

: *DIRECTIONS FOR HOW TO POST TO NEWSGROUPS*
: STEP 1) You do not need to re-type this entire letter to do your own posting. Simply put your cursor at the top of this document and highlight all of it. Select 'copy' from the edit menu. This will copy the entire letter into the computer's memory.

: STEP 2) Open a blank 'notepad' file or a blank email and place your cursor at the top of the blank page. From the 'edit' menu select 'paste'. This will paste a copy of the letter into notepad or a blank email so that
: you can add your name to the list.

: STEP 3) Save your new notepad file as a .txt. file or save your email with the document now on it.

: STEP 4) Search for various news groups (on-line forums, message boards, discussions groups) using a search engine or however you like.

: STEP 5) Visit these message boards etc and post this article as a new message by highlighting the text of this letter you will have saved, and selecting 'copy' and then 'paste' from the edit menu. (paste this document on the message board)
: Fill in the Subject line, this will be the header that everyone sees as they scroll through the list of postings in a particular group. Make it something intriguing that will make people want to read your message.
: Click the post message button. You're done with your first one! Congratulations...THAT'S IT! All you have to do is jump to different newsgroups and post away, after you get the hang of it, it will take only take you a few seconds for each newsgroup! You will begin receiving money within days!.

: ** Now the WHY part: Out of 200 postings, say you receive only 10 replies (a very low example of 5%). So then you make ?5 with your name at No6 on the letter.

: Now, each of the 10 persons who just sent you 50p make the MINIMUM 200 postings, each with your name at No5 and only 10 persons respond to each of the original 10, that is another ?50 for you.

: Now those 100 each make a MINIMUM 200 with your name at No4 and only receive 10 replies each, you will make an additional ?500!!

: OK, now here is the fun part, each of those 1000 persons post a MINIMUM 200 letters with your name at No3 and they each only receive 10 replies, that just made you ?5,000!!!!

: Those 10,000 persons will all deliver this message to 200 newsgroups with your name at No2 and if still only 10 people per 200 newsgroups react, you will receive ?50,000!

: With an original investment of only ?3 that's AMAZING!!!

: Do you realise that thousands of people all over the world are joining the Internet every day? And reading these articles JUST LIKE YOU ARE NOW!! There are tons of honest users looking at newsgroups and message boards everyday that will be willing to give it a try. Estimates are at 20,000 to 50,000 new users joining the Internet every day.

: So can you afford ?3 and see if it really works? I think so...

: **Remember** Play FAIRLY and HONESTLY and this will really work. DONT play honestly and fairly and it WONT.

: Good luck in your new business!!! How to turn ?3 into ?5,000! Or more! Do it

If anybody has a complete buttboard for sale that would be very cool as i can't seem to be able to find them anywhere. If you e-mail me pictures and tell me some stuff about it that would be great. Also if anyone knows of anywhere good to ride in Gloucestershire. There are loads of good hills but they are mostly privately onwned or quite busy....

Just to let y'all know that there's something happening in good ol' Sweden aswell. The hill is about two miles (3km) long, got two nasty hairpins and many milder turns. It will be exciting racing, loats of tactics involved since it's rather long, and the two hairpins will require good technique aswel. The date is end of june to 2nd of july. IT's three days practise and then one race day. The categories raced are standup, luge, buttboard and those crazy ice-luge lookalikes with loads of inlinewheels on 'em. If there's any gravitybikers interested i'm sure that they will put on a race for you guys aswell.

The road is in a small swedish village called Åre and is a part of some kind of "extreme week" they have there. So if you're into other "extreme sports" like kiteflying and downhill mountainbiking there'll be loads and loads of that kind going on aswell. Åre is supposed to be good for kiteflying and excellent for downhill mountainbiking. Beeing the biggest Skiresort in skandinavia there's all the lifts and cable cars to get you up the mountain, and there's supposedly loads of tracks down agian. They had some big race a few years back but i can't remember if it was the world championship or the world cup. (they're also hosting the ISF World championship (skiing) in 2007).

Anyway, checkout www.longboard.nu for more info on the downhill race and have a good life.

I havent really managed to get around to much racing for a while. I always seem to fall off my normal skateboard and hurt my self just before anything is on. But I hope to see all of you guy soon.

Cheers,
anders

Hi All!,
Just to let you know that the first race of the new organisation, the UK Gravity Sports Association, will be held, hopefully, on Sunday 25th April, at Dalby Forest. camping will be possible on the Saturday Night. Racing will take place all day, include the van back up the hill, and will include third party Public Liability Insurance. Cost £30 plus £5 for every extra discipline. We need 25 bods to sign up so we can cover our costs. Please contact me, in the first instance, as our website is not yet functional, at derek.round@tesco.net and we'll keep you informed.

Subject: Hot Heels is history !!!!

Author:
gerhard
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 04:43:19 02/18/04 Wed

Yes, 12 years of history are gone with one phonecall !!!

So let me explain what happens, everybody which has been at Hot Heels in the past know that Hot Heels was the best show and greatest organised events beside the multi Million budget events.

Basicly it was me which financed the event and toke over the financial risk, and spend over 30.000.-- Euros in the past 5 years as an investment into Hot Heels, i pushed every year so hard that there was no way back, the resort , sponsors and the worldwide situation of our sport needed Hot Heels so badley after all big events have been gone. Also you guys with your entry fees have been huge supportiv in the past, but i know there is no way for you guys to pay over 500.-- Euros entry fees, so !!

Anyway last year i got Braun as the sponsor of Hot Heels, and we had a great deal, we also agreed about 2004, but it was a spoken deal and not a signed contract. So what happened, Braun part of the gillette group had internal changes and the new people agreed to a different sport which is FMX, due the reason they had to cut the budget Hot Heels got droped. I got the phonecall after daily pushing them twice, yesterday. Well yes the contract was not signed yet so what can i do, all i can is to agree.

Therefor i cannot invest any more money into Hot Heels (still paiing the bills from last year) , i have to cancel the event at least for one year. Well maybe its good to leave the #13 go true, maybe not, since yesterday we are allready working on Hot Heels 2005 and try to bring it back in 2005, there are too many people involved in the event and everybody likes to have the event back.

Also since yesterday we are working on a solution to give you the two promised World Cups in Europe and we found the solution.

Switzerland / Altbüron will move back to the original Hot Heels date and the next following weekend we got the Red Bull Almabtrieb which is now the second world Cup for Europe.

York and Reinke are allready working on a package Deal like last year to support all overseas guys. This will be posted in about two weeks via mail from Hot Heels also with an explaination with what happened to Hot Heels this year.

Marcus will post the Tour in about latest two weeks time and you will see it looks great !

Without Hot Heels it doesn´t mean that our sport goes down , no we are getting bigger you will see,

i meanwhile will let you know that i´m very thankful for all your support over the past 12 years and will promise that i work hard to bring the most traditional event back.

Please don´t start to email me with your advice, i thought about this issue now for over 12 hours and was counting budget here and there and figured there is just no way, i was on the phone last night with the world and tried to find solution, we got them for the worldcups not for Hot Heels.

Please be patient and wait till you get the official Hot Heels mail with all detailed info and the announcement for Altbüron and Almabtrieb.

I would once more like to say thanks to all of you for your support in the past years, i had such great fun, Thanks guys out there.

If you like to to me a favor: i will put Hot Heels merch, Hot Heels banners, Hot heels goodies on ebay soon for auction, if you are interested on one or more items please bit for it, you will help me out big time, since i´m still paying the bills from last year. My financial situation is critical and if you bit for like only a few Dollars or Euro´s i may survive without bankrupticy. If i survive i will try my best to bring Hot Heels back, if not i´m in a serios bad situation for the next 7 years and will probably not be able to help, organize anymore and work for you guys.

So wait until you get the item numbers and bit for them.

So well , i´m not serios injured or anything , i´m not gonna kill myself , i just hope that your support like in the past years is still there since i never needed your support more than this year.

yours Gerhard Lanz (Downhiller and Promoter since 1992)

I would like to make it known that myself and event manager Caleb Clark are no longer involved in this event. I was ripped off for many weeks work and caleb quite simply hasnt got the time to deal with idiots. We do not feel that the promoter is capable of running an event to Longleats high standards as he has absolutely no experience and is not being completely truthful with Longleats staff. We feel that this is likely to result in the event foundering and eliminating any possibility of a true racing event at Longleat at any point in the future. I take no pleasure in posting this and wish any of you who get involved in this event the best of luck.

Calling all Street Lugers

PARK CITY, Utah --- USA Luge and the International Gravity Sports Association (IGSA) have teamed up to offer an open session of sliding for IGSA street lugers on Friday, Feb. 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the 2002 Olympic luge course in Park City, Utah.

“This is an excellent opportunity for the street luge athletes to experience the fastest sport on ice,” said USA Luge marketing director Gordy Sheer. “It’ll be a lot of fun to see what type of speeds these athletes reach and how they’ll make the adjustment from the street luge sled to the Olympic style sled.”

In April, USA Luge and the IGSA reached an exclusive agreement to assist each other in promoting both Olympic style and street luge. “This is part of that cooperation,” offered Sheer. “USA Luge has been working with the IGSA to obtain track time in Park City.”

Later this summer, the best U.S. luge athletes from the 2003-04 racing season will be invited to attend a week-long street luge training camp at the Wild Fro Racing School at the San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area, near San Jose, Calif.

In addition to Friday’s sliding on the world’s fastest track, three IGSA athletes, Andy Lally (Northport, N.Y.), Bill Smrtic (Tulsa, Okla.) and South African Richard Knaggs, will also have the opportunity to train the following week with a goal of qualifying for Sunday’s, Feb. 15, U.S. Masters National Championships, also in Park City.

The IGSA, based in Glendora, Calif., was formed in 1996 and is the sanctioning body for a number of gravity sports, including street luge. Last year, the IGSA hosted over 20 gravity sports competitions on the continents of Africa, Europe and North America.

Subject: Rules and other Big Changes for GBikes 04

GBA

Date Posted: 20:12:27 02/03/04 Tue

Hello GBA members,

We have had to make some very big decisions over the years. This year will be no different. The GBA Board voted to change a few rules that you guys have been talking about and greatly anticipating. To view rules changes go to http://www.gravitybike.com/GBA_rules/index.html

We hope we where able to address most of the issues at hand. We know that weight is something we would like to work on. We would like to address this problem but we cannot equalize the weight with out weight classes, and at this time there are not enough riders to divide up into weight classes. The reason we have not decided on having a max weight limit or by having riders add weight to equalize the current riders weight is because the lighter riders would need to add over 100lbs to their bikes to equal the weight of larger riders. After talking to Race Organizers we have decided that due to the hay bale lined courses with no run offs, and due to spectators standing very close to the tracks, this would pose a serious threat to safety at gravity bike events.

Ok so that is all in regards to rules.

As for Racing we will also be making big changes. After Working exclusively with the IGSA for one year we have decided that it is in the best interest of Gravity Biking and the GBA if we are allowed to work with other race organizers who want to hold gravity bike events. The IGSA has held us to an exclusive IGSA only agreement through 2003 that did not allow us to work with both the IGSA and other Race Organizers.

This is why we decided that it is in the best interest of Gravity Biking that we do not continue with an IGSA exclusive agreement in 2004. We are still happy to promote IGSA Gravity Biking with the GBA as the sanctioning body but we will also work with other Gravity Event Organizers to promote the Sport of Gravity Biking and G-Bike Athletes.

We will continue to promote Gravity Bike Racing Globally and non-exclusively as we have in the past, and thanks to you the members, we have continued growing bigger with each New Year. You are doing a great job and we at the GBA and GravityBike.com appreciate your continued support of the Gravity Bike Association. Thank you from all of us here at GravityBike.com.

Please email with any questions, we will be happy to answer them!

I'm new to gravity sports, and so i was just wondering how people tend to record their top speeds etc. I'm guessing that on a gravity bike you can mount a speedometer, but with skatewheeled vehicles how do people manage. Are radar guns or anything used? Anyway, thanx. Oh, also, just out of interest, what are peoples top speeds? I know its not the most important thing, but thought it would be interesting.

On a separate point, i've been trying to find out the legalities of street luge etc in the UK. Can anyone give me some guidance?

BTW, sorry, if in other threads the above has already been covered, i couldn't find anything out about it

Hey guys!

I just arrived to the UK last night, after a lovely summer in sweden. Things are starting to kick off there now, we had the first swedish champs a feew weeks ago and last thursday i found a CRAZY hillclimb track that a few people are going to session this weekend. There's one guy whos been in contact with the Swedish luge and bobslay association and streetluge (and standup) is now a sub-assoc of that which gives HUGE advantages when organising things. So for next year we hope to get a small swedish cup running and it would be cool if any of you guys would come along for that. Ill post more info on that when dates and places are set tho.

Anyway, is there anything going on in the UK? I am dying to go back up to Traws and ride with you all again, since that's probably the best 2weekends ive had in this country. If there's no events running, are there any people who are just going rinding that i could join up with? Im sitting all alone down in exeter with noone to go riding with.

Oh yeah, ive just got a new email adress cos my otherones were very hardly spammed. So if anyone would care to email me you oculd do that on (myFirstName)(myMiddleName)(mySurName)123@hotmail.com

Take care,

STEVE PEARL

Our prayers go out to Steve and his family.

We went to see Steve Monday afternoon and he was still being a tuff cookie. We got him a card and read it to him.

It had doctors standing around a patient and one doctors had a roll of duct tape in his hand. The doctor was saying that there isn't anything that can't be fixed with duct tape. When he heard that, he told us that is what he told the doctors to do.

It was really cool because it got a smile and little laugh out of Steve.

McLemore said it all, Steve is about the only person in this sport that is the hardest worker and would do anything for anybody. Steve’s school was doing very well and he was bringing in the money and it will be a while before he can get back on his feet so we all need to help out.

All donations can be sent to.

We will be holding a big raffle at Barrett and all of the donations will be going to the Pearl family. So all of you that would like to donate product for this raffle please contact me. Bob Ozman ozman.b@gravity-sports.com

Again the Pearl family is in all of our prayers daily.

Subject: 1st Annual Racers' Choice Awards[2003]

Author:
Jeremy Kahn

Date Posted: 13:15:21 09/12/03 Fri

Inspired by the legendary Leon Smith, Street Luge has its 1st Annual Riders Choice Awards. The Racers' Choice awards carry a great deal of respect in that lugers are judged by their peers. This is announced now, so when you are racing in Frisco, you can eye potential candidates.

These awards will be presented at the IGSA West Coast World cup at Barret Junction in October. If winner is not present, we will celebrate in your honor, and you will receive your commendation via snail mail.

Here is how it works - Vote for your racer to the criterion listed below. The list of racers is on the IGSA and GSI websites. The only rules are that they have had to race during the 2003 season in any event that is nationally or internationally recognized, and you can't vote for yourself. Hey guys,

I have just found what seems like the best hill in sweden, 2tight hairpins, one long and fast hairpin and two steep straights inbetween... but its on private land and i havent managed to get hold of anyone who can open the gates for us yet... but hopes are up so we'll see what happends. Anyway, I was just wondering how things are in the UK? Im going back in the beginning of october and are more then ever in the mood of dooing some downhill skating (and maybe even some buttboarding). Are there any events planed? Anything more in Traws? Any news about what could happend in Aviemore? Anything about gurston?

Like mr cool I also gave my crappy email adress due to spam but if you have any news maybe you can post them on this forum?

cheers,

Hey guys !!

First off i wish all injured riders from Oklahoma a speedy recovery and all the best, especially to Chris Mc Bride.

Chris i know we want see you for a while, i still hope you stay into the sport in any kind.

Thanks to Rusty and the F6-Crew for the event in Oklahoma.

Guys if anybody got some pic´s from Stuart and Werner Bücherl i need good quality pics for the next Hot Heels Press realise ! PLEASE !

Let me give you an update on the entry situation for Hot Heels.......

Stand up: 87
Classic: 67
Streetluge: 74
Inline: 20
Dirtsurfer: 19
Skatjet / Slalom / Gravity Bike / - below 10

As it is now a total number (Camp and Race) of over 220 riders entered Hot Heels this year.

It looks like it will be the biggest field ever since the existance of Hot Heels. But you also know that it will be limited to 150/110. The update will be done on the weekend !!!!

So what can you expect this year. Well we will expect lots of good racing and competitive racing.

Please also notice that the racing precedure for Hot Heels will be the same like the years before, Qualifying will be your first race, you need to make the cut to qualify for the World Championship Final on saturday !! (it is the same like DHX - X-Games - Gravity Games was, if you don´t make the cut you are a spectator for the final)

But lots of practise will give everybody a great chance this year.

Preperations for Hot Heels go realy well so far. I would like to thank all people which are allready involved since over months with preperation for the event.
The Hot Heels Team gets bigger and bigger every week now. I think a total number of over 70 volunteers / Staff / organizers / sponsors / partners / Media will help to held a great world Championship.

If you need anything please email the office@hotheels.net we will be pleased to help out with what you need. Bookings for Rooms / Accomodation for those which stay in town should be done soon. Flightdetails should be given soon to make sure somebody could pick you up, and also the shuttle plan back to zurich Airport needs to be worked out....

Update on media situation. Lots of TV-Crew will do features on riders from their country´s , as it is so far i heard that at least 5 riders from different country´s get featured at the World Champs. I think a total of about 6 cameras will hang out only in the finish area.

TV- Production: It looks like we will have over 16 cameras on course this year. For the first time since 1993 we got a birds eye cam again. One of the worlds best paragliding pilot will fly with an camera guy to give us an bird´s eye impression of the course and the race !

Everybody which will bring his own camera (fingerstick, minicams e.g.) and would like to support us with great footage please email tv@hotheels.net we would be pleased to get some more different angles and footage which we can involve onto the highlite tape to get the best possibly quality.

So last but not least:

Werner Bücherl will move to Kaunertal by mid next week and will start with a smal group with setups.
Thanks to werner and his support.

that´s it for now !

Thanks to all of you and see you soon !!

First sorry i had to postpone the race this weekend. The main reason was that Jo was taken in to hospital late Thursday and was admited. At that stage we did not know how long she was going to be in.I am glad to say that she is now at home resting and that the baby is fine.

I did phone the people who said they where coming up for this weekend or who told me they where to let them know it was postponed. If you did not get a call I didnt know you where coming sorry.

In the next week or so If races could let me know what dates are free.
I will start with weekend of the 11th July we need a good group for this as I have been contacted by a film company who would like to come along a film for a show that goes out in Jan 2004.So if you would like to be a TV star!!!!!!!!!!!

Race reports -

SSSprint British Gravity Championship Meeting - 1st June 2003

Overview

We arrived on the Hill - just as it started raining...but with big doses of optimism in the accuracy of the weather forecast, we were only delayed by about an hour and a half before the sun came out - and the track was dry again in minutes.

Street Luge - 6th Round

The first hour or so after the rain was taken up by preparation of luges by some of the racers, and the playing of target practice with the cones by the novices, and Kay. We were soon ready to race, with Nick Christie as acting Time Keeper (thanks Nick!) under Rains experienced eye. Immediately, Jack Banyard and Ben Bewley set the pace for the lugers with first runs at the 59 sec mark. Congratulations to Beth Daunter, who put in her personal best time on her first run of the day.

Meanwhile, the novices also pushed hard from the start, and James Stearns, James Lubbock and Chris Britton all managed 1min 5s or less by the end of the day. (Unfortunately Chris fell heavily on his wrist on his last run, and it later transpired that he had broken a bone in his hand. We all wish him a very quick and comfortable recovery.)

Francis Hasek, although unlucky with his qualifiers, achieved an admirable 1min 19s, and Olly Nelken, despite just having the two runs, sneaked in front of Neil Trehearn for 10th place. Neil then got his own back by putting in the fastest time of the day at a remarkable 57.66s.

Congratulations also to Kay Podymakhina, who achieved a personal best of 1min 03s at the end of the day, and to Nick who got first place. Again.

Gravity Bike - 6th Round

The gravity bikes were now facing stiff competition in the form of GB novice Vithia Gunalan on the new SSSprint creation, which the others admitted wasn't bad at all for something built up from scrap! However, all the glory was snatched by Ian Round when he put in an excellent 55.13s as a qualifier.

The other racers took up the challenge and pushed hard to rival Ian, with Mike Whitehouse closest at 57.24s and brother Graham at 58.7s. Vithia put in a great first attempt of 1min 2s on the new bike, and even Neil Trehearn jumped on to a bike at the end of the day to put in a qualifier, taking the numbers up to five this round.

Stand-Up - 6th Round

Arguably the bravest people on the hill, the stand-up riders numbered greater than the gravity bikers on Sunday, though from their times, it was clear that few of them were novices.

Chung Song unfortunately finished early due to a couple of hard falls, albeit having posted a better time than Nick Christie's first attempt at stand-up. Nick, however, was undeterred and vows to return (good for him!). He will certainly have some stiff competition at Gurston, with none of the others ending the day with times greater then 1min 7s.

Congratulations to Tom Evans who put in a personal best of 1min 7.07s, and also to Anders Osterling and Steve Mobbs, who achieved 1min 5s on their first day at the hill. Meanwhile, Luke Wetherall and James Harmon both put in 1min 2s runs, but sadly Luke blew both of his qualifiers.

An excellent time for experienced Stand Up competitor Darren Rathbone, broke the hill record with a stunning 1.00.66 to take 2nd place on his first outing at Gurston.

However 'Run of the Day' must go to Jason Muscat who then put in another hill record for the stand-up championship and breaking the minute barrier. His 59.84s. left those of us who don't race stand-up, and who have seen the Hill record broken at each meeting, wondering exactly where the limit is going to be!

Congratulations must surely go to Jason, who has managed set hill records at every meeting he has attended so far.

Conclusion

In spite of the rain delayed start, it was one of the most colourful and exciting days I can ever remember at Gurston. With more competitors than ever wanting to run the Hill, the limitations - in terms of turn around between runs - that this enthusiasm is beginning to cause was clear. I would like to reassure riders that this issue is being addressed, and that a new system is to be introduced for the next SSSprint meeting which will ensure that an increased number of riders is balanced by more runs being available to all through the day.

NEXT MEETING

The next meeting is proposed for Sunday 22nd June at Gurston Down.

I can never predict how many will attend, but numbers have risen at each of the last three meetings - to the point where three riders had to be turned away from the last meeting due to its being over-subscribed. To avoid disappointment, and help me with the booking process, I would really appreciate riders letting me know if they wish to attend immediately - and not leaving it until the Thursday afternoon before the race.

If you wish to enter for the next race meeting, please contact either Ding or myself a.s.a.p.

Two weeks left! The sponsors are stacking up. The racers are signing up. This is going to be an incredible event.

I will be running approximatley ten 1/4 page ads in the paper. If you want to have your info in the race program and news paper ads, email me!

The printed deadline for mailing your entry fee is on 5/26. Just today I realized that is Memorial Day. Because of the US Post Office being closed on the 26th, A postmark of 5/27 will not be considered late.

For those traveling by air that want to camp but cannot bring camping gear, I can rent you a tent and sleeping bag. The cost for the entire weekend ends up about the same as one night in the hotel. Less if you share a campsite with someone else. Two to three tents are allowed on each site. Email me if you are interested and need assistance.

The Talimena Drive Xtreme Downhill is stacking up to be the largest event since St. George '01. The racer turnout is awesome. I didn't even know there where that many Gravity Bikers out there! They are racing for the Best Of The Best. All disciplines are increasing in numbers. Don't miss out! Email or call me if you need anything!

See you on the Talimena Drive

OK, this is all going too far for a small and great fun sport!

I know Chris wants to do good luge events and has experience in doing excellently-organised events. I also know Ian and Derek also are out actively trying to spread the venues, sport and bring out the people.
It seems there's been a personality clash ofer control issues.

Heck, nobody needs top control the sport: it's too small for that. The venues are (often) public roads, so nobody has dibs on those. And if a promoter (which is different from an organising body) wants to put on a race, then they can do that wherever, and everybody shoudl get together and help them. Wo cares 'whose' race it is. You're not in this for the money (I hope, or you'll be severely disappointed), so what's the fuss. It's hardly as if just because someone's got (or hasn't got) a fancy self-made title that we think any differtnly of them.

So, let's get out and organise. Chris is good at tnat, but he hasn't got the time to do it all, as he says! So less-experienced people can also organise meets: I suspect Derek will be good at that, and Ian if given a chance. We need multiple organisers and people - even if they don't persoinally get along - at least supporting (preferably helping) and not sabotaging each others' efforts to put on events.

You don't have to like each other; just co-exist and co-operate. And a representative organisation is something that shoudl exist - as long as it's truly open democratic and representative - totally independently of who gets to organise on practices and races. All such a body is about is providing shared equipment to people and providing a 'name' so promoters can get sponsorship for their events.

Some people are better at certain things than others. Derek seems to be good at finding at least potential venues (never been tothem!); chris seems to be good at organisation. Nobody yet has been utterly successful at handling the media or lasting sponsors.. so maybe more new people can try. WHat about the others who've been quiet recently like Dr Danger or our Scottish brethren ?

..these spats won't help us! Please, share your toys, everybody, please...

RESULTS - 2003 SSSprint Gravity Championships - Sunday May 4th - Gurston Down

5th Round - 2003 SSSprint British Street Luge Championship

In spite of a stiff headwind, it remained sunny and dry all day, and the track was very clean. Top times were lower than usual as a result, but Nick Christie was still able to post both the fastest qualifier, and the fastest time of the day - 0.57.21 - to regain his lead in the championship from the absent Chris Downham. Neil Trehearn clearly concentrated harder on his qualifiers, and so was second with a result that - this time - actually reflected his ability, leaping from 8th to 5th in the championship. An ever improving Ben Bewley pipped a disconsolate Tristan Rothwell by over a second to take 3rd place. However, Tristan's new luge looks good and will no doubt benefit from further tuning in competition. Jack Banyard took 5th with a 1.02.18, with novices Adrian Kitachi, Beth Daunter, Lee Caller, Luke Wetherell, and Simon Donaghue making up the back of the field. Mention must be made of Beth, who put in a very creditable FTD of 1.09.79 on her first outing, and commiserations given to Simon who's characteristic press on attitude resulted in a spectacular 2nd corner spill. Unfortunately he landed awkwardly on his wrist and retired early, discovering the next day that he had broken the small scafoid bone in his hand. We wish him the least discomfort over the next 6 weeks he has to spend in plaster...

2nd Round - 2003 SSSprint Gravity Bike Championship

Ian Round again won decisively, his best time a full 2 seconds better than runner up Mikey Whitehouse, who in turn was virtually the same again in front of Joel King in 3rd. Graham Whitehouse ended in 4th, and Neil Trehearn was a surprise 5th - a good result for first time out on a borrowed bike! David Whitehouse, distracted by longboards, was 6th. With more bikes under construction, we all look forward to bigger fields and more close and exciting racing in the near future.

2nd Round - 2003 SSSprint Stand Up Championship

Jason Muscat shone again in the second round. His 1.06.24 qualifier was enough to take the top spot, but his FTD of 1.01.53 - especially against the headwind - was amazing. We all look forward to seeing what he can do with no wind, and as he becomes more at home on the course. Newcomer (to Gurston) Tom Evans took 2nd from Luke Wetherell in 3rd, with Adrian Kitachi understandably struggling a little on his first visit to what, particularly for stand ups, is an initially daunting course.

ADDENDUM -

6th Round - SSSprint British Gravity Sports Championship - 2003 is proposed for Sunday 18th May, at Gurston Down, and will include :

6th Round - 2003 SSSprint British Street Luge Championship

3rd Round - 2003 SSSprint Gravity Bike Championship

3rd Round - 2003 SSSprint Stand Up Championship -

It is necessary for the course to be booked as soon as possible for this date if the meeting is to go ahead.

So please could all those who wish to attend - for a street luge 'Taster Day', or as racers or novices in any discipline - let me know as soon as you receive this message in order that I know whether there will be sufficient interest to confirm it.

Thanks - and please do respond - either way

Wanted to say thanks for a great days racing on sunday, I can't wait until the next meet, also as a side note I promised some of the people I spoke to that day that I'd post the link to my mail order store here,
It's www.magicrw.co.uk
Might be of an interest to some of the lugers out there as I have a few sets of cherry bombs as well as some m-80's. The catalogue isn't quite finished yet so not all the products are up, this includes the aforementioned m-80's as well as some 70mm kryptos and a bevy of different bearings. So drop me a line if you're interested in anything.

Thanks a lot and see you at the next gurston meet

Streetluge / Standup Leathers - A buyers guide.

I'm sure you have all had to go and buy streetluge leathers at some point - I usually buy second hand motorcycle leathers seeing as they are cheap, and I burn through leather like it's going out of fashion. I just can't afford to buy brand new leathers as they get trashed so quickly.

Anyway - finding second hand leathers usually leads you through the local papers, free-ads, ebay, for sale boards etc... So, you have found a set of leathers that you like the sound of, but before you go off driving miles to try them on - what size are you?!!! Will they fit?!!!

Motorcycle leathers are mostly sized according to a standard system (although this may differ slightly between different manufacturers). The following link will lead you to a 'standard' sizing chart. Using this chart will help you to determine if a set of leathers are anywhere near your size....

http://www.bksleather.co.uk/sizechart.htm

(Cut & paste this link into your browser).

I hope this helps you to find a good fit in the future, it could save you a lot of wasted journeys on the search for the right set of leathers.

Tom Worsley

P.S. Warning - Some bikers have their leathers custom made to their own specific size / build. These are not covered in the above chart.

Hi All

Despite cancellations due to bad weather and lack of numbers some of us still managed to get out and do a bit of riding.

On Saturday afternoon I met up with Graham and Mike Whitehouse and young Beth in the pub. After a couple of beers and a bit of nosh we decided that it would be cool to go down to the sea front and drop the short, but fun paths down onto the main prom. This is a great location to teach beginners like Beth because of the slow and non-technical slopes with good run-outs. After a bit of practise beginners can then advance to Old Biddy dodging.

Anyway, we left the pub, stopped off at mine to pick up the Luge and headed off to Grahams to pick up his bike. As we pulled up onto the pavement outside is house there was a yummy scraping sound, this was the beginning of a whole category of disasters! The front tyre on Grahams car had a nice big nail in it causing a flat; because of this the car had grounded on the pavement as we pulled up. OK, time to change the tyre, can we get the spare out of the boot, can we ****! Eventually, with a crow bar and a lot of effort we managed to break off the nut that was holding the tyre in and hauled it out. So the spare bounces to the ground, a groan goes up from all of us, looks like the spare is almost as bad as the flat and has almost no tread!!! We take a risk and fit it on, thank God it was almost ok and we decide to risk it.

With the car fixed it is time to put the bike together, Graham hauls it out of the garage only to find that it also has a flat!!!!!!!!!! A new tube is put in and other problems are fixed. Finally with everything sorted, including my gut (sorry again Beth), we cram 4 people a Luge and a gravity bike into a fiesta sized car (oh the fun!) and head on down to the sea front.

Good times were had by all of us down at the beach; Beth loved her first time on a Luge (she seemed to find lying on her back surprisingly natural). Unfortunately she didn't seem very good at cornering or braking so we were constantly covering our eyes when she started to head towards curbs or lampposts. Due to low speeds (10mph max) and a lot of luck she and, more importantly, my Luge came out ok.

While Beth and myself rode the Luge while the twins played on the bike, always one or two of us doing marshalling and crowd control. We attracted a lot of attention from people of all ages and had quite an audience at times, everyone seen very interested and a couple of kids had a go as well (in return for a go on their electric scooter ;-D ).

After a while I noticed that we were getting some interested from the local fuzz. At about that point Beth comes zooming down the hill and towards the coppers. Seeing them at the last minute she screeched to a stop while going past them. Huge grin on her face she ran back towards us, they walk!

"That looks very fun, but you know what I'm going to say.” says the policewoman. "Yeah," I reply, "Go on, have a go, for the camera."

We didn't receive a proper telling off, but for safety reasons we were asked to move on, to which we politely agreed. The police refused to have a photo taken, so during the talking to I discreetly flicked the camera to video mode and pressed record. I may make the video available later, e-mail me if you are interested.

We mosied along the prom. For about a 1/2 mile until we reached Durly chine. Unfortunately it was too wet to run safely without protection, etc. so we entered the Durley Inn for another booze and Nosh session, lovely! A big thank you has to go to Beth at this point for some HUGELY entertaining and amazing stories, drunken girls are great! ;-)

The next day we (now including my housemate) headed up to Face Plant Hill for some real riding. The forecast was for rain and I had a train to catch at 4pm, but nothing was gonna stop us, not event a diversion (empty roads are great!). This hill is about ¾ of a mile long and very steep, the tarmac is pretty rough and on either side there is a mud bank and dense trees. This is not a place to fall off so is not rideable for beginners, on out first visit Graham came off on the bike face first into a bank and ended up in hospital. As it turned out the weather was great and so was the riding, Graham and Mikey hit 55mph on the bike, on the Luge I hit 65mph and Mike hit a hedge (he was fine, and the passers by who were following the chase car had a good laugh). Thanks to Jim for shuttling us up the hill and to Beth and whoever wasn’t riding for marshalling, stopping cars and using the camera. I also have a video of myself and Graham or Mikey (not sure who) running the hill, again e-mail me if you are interested in seeing it.

Anyway, despite cancelled races, a bad forecast and car problems we all had a fantastic weekend. Looking forward to Gurston this weekend, see you there.

The racers that attended have not forgotten!
The spectators that watched have not forgotten!
Everyone is still talking about the Saddlegap!
Leflore County Oklahoma will never be the same!
Last year they tasted Gravity Racing and since then they have been begging for more!

The Talimena Drive Xtreme Downhill is scheduled for June 6,7,8th. I spoke with the US Forest Dept today and everything is in order. We have more sponsors this year so we have doubled the number of hay bales. We have contracted with the top sports medical team in the nation to be on site with complete medical facilities. The Talimena Drive is made for gravity racing so you can’t miss this opportunity to race one of, if not the best downhill racecourse in North America. And believe it or not, it is in Oklahoma!

The Talimena Drive Xtreme Downhill is the first World Cup Event scheduled for 2003. The IGSA, US Luge and the GBA have teamed up this year to promote gravity racing and to make 2003 a breakthrough year. On the Talimena Drive, all gravity disciplines will be raced. Streetluge, Classic Luge, Skateboard, Inline Skate and Gravity Bike.

The Gravity Bike Association has put up a challenge to all gravity bikers this year. It is time to determine who is the fastest! The Talimena Drive Xtreme Downhill is where the GBA will determine who is the Best Of The Best!

Don’t miss out! This is a racers race. Redbull will be there bigger than last year. Dietz & Watson is providing lunches this year. The Poteau Chamber of Commerce is throwing the racers party on Friday night. The bull has been scheduled! You can get complete registration information at www.gravity-sports.com.

See you all one the Talimena Drive!

Hi dudes,

Well said Tommy. I've just got back from holiday in France, Hang Gliding in the Alps. Now they have some hills! Irish Tom and I found a couple of corkers, (and hills -fnarr fnarr). How does this sound? 4 miles long, sweeping bends and one hairpin. Smooth tarmac, safe run offs. 1380M - (yes, that's METRES not feet) vertical height. I have the location safe, and it's by a good free flying site and town too.

So, what's happened in old Blighty while I was away? Loads by the look of things, but then again not much either! I started luging with a skateboard and a broomhandle. We ran some hills and had a laugh. There was nothing formal about it and we didn't need it. We went to Gursdon and had a laugh there, we went to Aviemore and were blown away by that. It was cool.

It was cool because it was rare, underground, legally dodgy (how we did it anyway) but most of all because there was no 'officialness'. OK, Ding has been running SSSprint for ages, but we didn't know about that - and they keep themselves to themselves. They don't want to rule the world. I don't know about the rest of you but I'm in this for a laugh, fun - remember that?

If you run a SSSprint event, I'll come and play. If you run a BSGA event, I'll be there. Same goes for IGSA, BGA or whoever. I don't care, as long as I can make it I'll be there. I know one thing though, it would be much better if all the 'organisers' could agree to put their resources together. A single body would have more clout and save me all the different membership fees. Think about it eh?

Cheers, MC.

One more thing, it's my Dad's birthday on Sunday so I won't see you at Gursdon. I'll try and make the next one.

RACING AT GURSTON - PLEASE READ!

Right then, it’s been a week or so since I read this message board – and I must admit I nearly fell asleep having to trawl my way through the masses of boring messages.

This message board should be re-named something like

“The European Union Bureaucratic Time-Absorbing Initiative; To Discuss, Maintain and Implement the Necessary Requirement For Scheduled Meetings when Monitoring and Assessing The Required Needs Of The Gravity-Sports Community, with the object being Maximise and Optimise the Time Spent Typing Crap and Hoping Other People Might Have To Read It”.

See – I’ve just invented the: -

“T.E.U.B.T.A.T.D.M.I.N.R.F.S.M.M.A.T.R.N.O.T.G-S.C.M.O.T.S.T.C.H.O.P.M.H.T.R”

Anybody want to become a member? There’s room on the committee…

Ok then, Pause for breath.

Back to the subject – Racing at Gurston: -

ANYBODY is welcome to come and ride with us at Gurston, ALL DISCIPLINES ARE WELCOME. Over the past year we have seen a mass of different machines - Streetluge, Stand-up, Buttboard, Gravity bikes…. even a top-flight million-dollar ‘Soapbox’ gravity racer run by the ‘Prodrive’ Subaru rally team!

We don’t care if you are a member of the I.G.S.A, G.B.S.A, G.B.A, …. C.I.A., R..S.P.C.A. – JUST COME AND RACE. Anybody is welcome to join us, just so long as they

Book in advance
Pay the requested fees
Treat the place and others with respect

Racers can be awarded SSSprint points, and then in their own time they can decide whether these are recognised by the BGSA, IGSA, GBA, or even the Brownies, as they wish….

Ding has been running races at Gurston since something like 1995? He set up SSSprint to provide a racing-series for enthusiasts of the then ‘new’ extreme sport of “Streetuge” to compete in. And to promote the sport in general.

Ding has been running at least 10 RACES PER YEAR at Gurston ever since. Each event will see at least five newcomers – that means that since 1995, Ding has introduced something like 400 newcomers to the sport. I know that the VAST MAJORITY of the U.K. racers reading this will count themselves among them. We race all year round, come rain or shine – we will be on the hill.

We run SSSprint without ANY meetings, without ANY votes – and without ANY hassle. That is the way we want to keep it. SSSprint has run at least 80 races since it began!

You can say what you want about Gurston as a race venue, but you ALL know that if it wasn’t for the safe and forgiving nature of the course - we would ALL be walking like Chalky by now. (No offence Chalky!). I personally don’t know of any better course to learn how to ride a luge. That said, if you push yourself to the limit, the hill can be just as challenging as any other.

The current Streetluge World Champion – Pete Elliot, AND the current Buttboard World Champion are both regular racers at Gurston, and I’ll bet that they have both ridden more roads than the rest of us put together.
Most recently we have seen Gravity bikes make an appearance on the hill – and they make a welcome addition to the racing. There is no ‘splinter group’, there is no conspiracy – just a group of bikers who want to race with us.

So, the door is open – come and race, just please don’t drown us with endless mind-numbing emails that bang on about so-called ‘Splinter Groups’. The only splinters at Gurston are in the deck of my Buttboard!

See you on the hill…

Tom.

Matt McLemore (GBA president) has anounced (to GBA members)that Chris has resigned as the UK representive and cut all communication between the GBSA and GBA.

This seems very sad. Welcome to the tiny world of gravity biking in the UK.

I have on previous postings aired my own view and asked for reasons to the opposition to the affilation to the GBA (and thus the IGSA) but have had no response. N

ow the descision seems to have been made i am still no closer to understanding why

someone please explain why our national points series no longer count towards the GBA world series points.

Firstly,Matthew asked me to remove the mail as I shouldn't have posted it apparantly. This was my mistake I was trying to inform people of what was going on.
Secondly, I have spent 2 hours on the phone to Matthew (GBA) today,at my expense,to try and resolve some of the problems.Unfortunatley you will have to wait until Matthew gets back to me with information required.
The BGSA is still in its infancy we only have about 20 members, and some of these seem to be forming splinter groups.
Even though Traws is far away for most people I don't see how I can be expected to organise races in other parts of the country when so much work goes into just organising Traws, making sure we have transport, bales, some where to store the bales and transporting them, booking cabins, collecting people from train stations etc etc..
Most people know that I am trying work on other venues but the road has to be good enough and it has to be as safe as possible.
I will have to take unpaid time off work to see estate managers and then after all the organising and getting the road if enough people do not go then its a waste of time and loss of money.
Until I can secure another venue the rest of the BGSA rounds are at Traws.
I have spoken to Ding about using Gurston for all gravity sports but he was not comfortable with this and I respect that. I don't understand why gravity bikers using Gurston would expect points when it cannot be a BGSA event.
The aim of myself and committee members is to promote all the gravity sports equally,to be as safe as possible and for the sports to be FUN rather than being bogged down with contracts and politics.
As for the voting issue this should be carried out by the committee but any points can be brought to the committees attention. The reason for this is that this is how most clubs operate and where both John and myself have had experience.Votes by members are made at AGM or EGM where they can vote on new commitee members and others issues published before the AGM or EGM.
Only members of the BGSA can vote at AGM or EGM's.
I do take on board any points made and will discuss with the commitee.
Thanks
Chris

With regards to the developments surrounding the GBA has the BGSA committee made a decision yet? If not, will BGSA members have a say? Personally I think it would be a shame not to be a part of the GBA and a larger international community. It would not incour any additional costs, they are GBA rules, not IGSA and a gentlemans agreement could be formed with those rules that are in contension.

Please post your views etc.

Hello all,

The post was removed at my request. This was an email written before the GBA worked out a final agreement with the IGSA. Many people reading this inter-GBA email felt that we were put in a bad position by the IGSA.

I apologize personally for this view.

I personal would like to state that the IGSA and Marcus have worked very hard to make the riders happy this year.

Everyone saw this with the recent Streetluge Vote that was put out to all Streetlugers. Think about it. The riders are getting to make their own choices and the IGSA has been the only Organization in the world to put out this kind of vote. Doesn't this say something about who this Organization Really is?

Marcus and the IGSA have given the Gravity Bike community more than most realize.

1.Marcus and the IGSA was the sole reason Gravity Bikes were able to Demo the X-Games in 2000.

2.Marcus was the first Organization in the World to add Gravity Bikes to an event roster.

3. Marcus and the IGSA were the first and only Gravity Organization to Recognize the GBA and our racing members. (In the last week Marcus personally spent many hours helping the GBA develop a Global race series that will represent Gravity Bikers all over the world.)

This CAN STILL include the BGSA!

Gerhard from the IGSA has tried to talk to the BGSA about your events being added to the 2003 World Cup Championships. And has met resistance. Is this really good for the riders or the sport!

This is a great opportunity for BGSA riders in all classes and the UK Gravity Sports Programs to be represented with the rest of the world.

It is time to stop the division and to Unite so our sports can grow and our riders will have races.

I would like to state that I am personally thrilled at what the IGSA/GBA affiliation will do for Gravity Biking.

Have we forgotten people all just want to race and have it count.

Why should UK riders be alienated from the rest of the world.

We just want your results to stand next to riders from all over the world even if you can't afford to travel out of your region.

The IGSA is giving Europe Two World Cups in 2003. For Gravity Bikes the IGSA has even offered to include the Traws Results for National points in the IGSA/GBA World Championships.

It is time to focus on the riders. This is why the GBA feels that an IGSA affiliation, is not only Good for the GBA, but it is Great for the Riders. IGSA Europe all ready has a Globally competitive schedule lined up for 2003. This year Hot Heels even offers Prize money.

Within the IGSA/GBA alliance we have worked very hard to include the BGSA for 2003. The BGSA riders and events could be included in the 2003 IGSA Championships. Don't you guys think your riders would want this?

I know Gravity Bikers want this and the simple fact is the IGSA is the only Organization who can really truly give it to us, and we know this because in 2003 they already have.

That is why I asked Chris to remove that post because it absolutely gives the wrong idea of how the GBA feels about the IGSA and of how the IGSA is treating the GBA.

The GBA is incredibly pleased with the outcome of the proposed IGSA/GBA alliance.

Unlike "Fair's Fair" I will put my name to this message.

Why have the posts regarding the GBA been removed? This was a genuine discussion and was not insulting anyone. Please can you respond, why were they removed (because Matt did not want his e-mail to be mede public? A bit late for that), what will the BGSA be doing regarding the GBA, will there be a vote or will the committee descide?

Hi Everyone.

After talking to Ding Boston this Sunday, his consent has been given to run a Gravity Bike race series along side the current Streetluge events. The next event Date is Sunday 6th April. I will be attending, as will Graham & Michael Whitehouse. I'll also have some spare bikes available for anyone who'd like a go.....

The gravity bike races will be run at a maximum of four riders per run, using Gravity Bike Association (GBA) rules. We will be self-governed and scrutineered (with final word from Ding). Realistically, as long as the bike & rider is safe (no sharp protrusions, wearing leathers, gloves, helmet etc), we'll let it run. We're currently waiting a verdict upon wether points from these races can be included for the GBA Championsip.....

From a logistical point of view, SSSPrint Streetlugeers have priority (cos they wos there first)so we will attempt to operate with no interference to their routine. With this in mind, I am trying to arrange a seperate van for getting us back to the top of the hill.
I'll post up other event dates as soon as I am able.

The hill was also run successfully by Stand-up riders Luke Wetherall & Tom Worsley, as you'll have seen from earlier posts. They're hoping to try and increase the Stand-up representation on the 6th, so any more riders would be very welcome, as would any in-line riders.

Nearly forgot the crucial bit...SSSPrint annual membership is £25, & event entry fee is £20. (ie. £45 first event, £20 thereafter. Ding also sometimes has safety kit available for hire, if you'd like to come along but don't have all the neccessary gear.

Look forward to seeing a few more bods on the hill....
Cheers, Ian.
